Abstract
As a flagship university of the state of Tennessee, the University of Tennessee – Knoxville boasts many premium research and educational programs covering science and engineering.Over the last decade, its pavement research and educational program has overseen steady development. This presentation outlines typical research projects completed at the UTK that covers multiscale modeling of pavement materials, numerical simulation of pavement structures, laboratory and field characterization of paving materials, optimized maintenance decision makings for asphalt pavements, and innovative technologies for sustainable pavement materials.

Introduction of Prof. Baoshan Huang

Dr. Baoshan Huang has been a faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, since January 2002. He earned a Ph.D. at Louisiana State University. His areas of research include infrastructure materials, pavement engineering, geotechnical engineering, and infrastructural asset management. Over the last ten years, he has secured over 5 million dollars of research funding to support his research activities. He has been actively involved in many professional committees, including the Transportation Research Board (TRB), Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the International Society of Asphalt Pavement (ISAP).He was the chair of the ASCE Bituminous Materials Committee (BMC) during 2010 – 2012, and has been an associate editor for the ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering since 2003.Dr. Huang has published over 60 (SCI and EI Indexed) journal papers and holds one US patent on innovative application of industrial waste in cementitious materials.
