BIOGRAPHY
Xiang Wang is a PhD student in the Department of Structural Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. He previously received his M.S. in structural engineering from the South China University of Technology (2009) and his B.S. in civil engineering from Hunan University (2004) in China. His research interests are in the general area of earthquake engineering, including nonlinear analysis of building structures, performance-based seismic design, and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis.

ABSTRACT
Recent earthquakes have demonstrated the seismic vulnerability of nonstructural components and systems (NCSs) as a result of economic losses, business interruption, and life safety hazards. To improve our understanding of the seismic performance of the NCSs, a shake table test program was conducted on a full-scale five-story building using the NEES-UCSD Large High Performance Outdoor Shake Table. The building was furnished with a wide range of NCSs and tested under two different configurations: base isolated with high damping rubber bearings and base fixed to the shake table platen. Among the various NCSs, two predominant egress subsystems utilized in buildings, a fully functional elevator system and a prefabricated metal stair subassembly were installed and provided access to all levels of the building, and the light-gauge metal stud exterior façade subsystem was installed at the lower three levels. In the presentation, a brief overview of the shake table test program and the structural floor response during the testing are presented, and the seismic performance of the egress subsystems and the exterior façade subsystem are discussed in detail.
