Objectives

The program aims to cultivate high caliber talents who
- master solid and broad basic theories and systematic in-depth professional knowledge in technical economics and management;
- understand the movement and trends of regional innovation and industrial development, innovation and entrepreneurship management, investment and financing decision-making and management, and knowledge management and organizational learning;
- have strong abilities of investigation, statistics and quantitative analysis, writing, computer application, and good command of a foreign language;
- are able to conduct scientific research independently.

Graduates will be competent to perform teaching and research in management as well as administrative works in institutions of high education, research institutions, enterprises or government departments.

Cultivation Mode

Each doctoral student is assigned an academic supervisor from the faculty to provide supervision on the student’s study and research. Under the guidance of their supervisor, doctoral students should draw up a study plan within two weeks after registration. Students are supposed to participate in the medium term assessment according to the Doctoral Degree Candidate Medium-Term Assessment Method of South China University of Technology and complete the required social practice session by the end of the third semester. During the program, students must attend at least 15 academic lectures. Students may select elective courses in management science and engineering and obtain credits. Admitted students with master degree in cross-disciplines (disciplines or special fields of study are totally different from the current ones) have to, under the guidance of their supervisor, make up three specialized compulsory courses of this major. Students must complete all these make-up courses which are included in the study plan, but no credits will count toward the doctoral degree.

Doctoral Thesis

Students should draw up a thesis proposal in the third semester. Upon completion of the thesis writing, students can apply for their thesis to be reviewed and the oral defense. Students must satisfy the School’s requirements for degree awarding on academic paper(s) publication before they initiate their thesis to be reviewed. Thesis defense is arranged according to the Rules for the Implementation of Graduation Degrees of South China University of Technology and the Regulations of the Applications for Thesis Defense of South China University of Technology.
