Dr. Mirko Arnold received his PhD from Leibniz University Hannover in 2008. In the same year, he joined BASF in Germany and worked in Chemist Process Development, Catalysts Division till 2012. Subsequently, he was the manager of Global Raw Material Strategy, Catalysts Division in USA from 2012 to 2014 and then the project leader of Global Quality Management, Catalysts Division from 2014 to 2015. After his return to Germany in 2015, he took the position of manager of Global Strategic Investments, Coatings Division. From 2017 to 2019, Dr. Mirko Arnold was the director of Strategy Development & Controlling, Coatings Divisions. He is now working in Guangzhou/Jiangmen as the vice president of Global Technology Automotive Refinish Coatings.

In this lecture, Dr. Mirko Arnold will give insights into the automotive coatings industry and specifically how innovation in chemistry, physics, and digitalization enable sustainable solutions. Starting with explaining how coating solutions are used in the automotive industry, he will derive the present and future industry demands ranging from reduced CO₂ emissions, waterborne coatings and also faster coating processes. Based on recent research projects he will give very tangible insights into the work of the BASF Coatings laboratories comprising advances in applied chemistry to advances in color science and image processing and usage.
