1. 报告题目:Design of High Energy Density Lithium-Sulfur Batteries(周光敏博士)
内容摘要:Despite the great promise of Li–S batteries, many challenges need to be addressed before they can find practical applications. For example, the low electrical conductivities of sulfur, polysulfide products and the final Li2S product affect the utilization of the active sulfur material and the rate capability of the battery. The highly soluble polysulfides in the electrolyte, which can shuttle between the anode and cathode and form a deposit of solid Li2S2/Li2S on the cathode and anode, cause an irreversible loss of sulfur, which leads to low Coulombic efficiency, low cyclic capacity and an increase in impedance. In this talk, firstly I will briefly introduce the background of rechargeable Li-S batteries, then I will talk about strategies to improve the performance of Li-S batteries from physical confinement, chemical binding and battery configuration design. Catalyzing capability of metal sulfides in promoting the conversion of sulfur species, reactivation of dead sulfur species and high energy LixSi/graphene–sulfur full cell will also be included. Finally, I will give a summary and acknowledgements.。
个人简介:周光敏2014年博士毕业于中国科学院金属研究所,导师为成会明院士和李峰研究员。毕业后前往美国UT Austin从事博士后研究,合作导师为Arumugam Manthiram教授。一年后加入斯坦福大学崔屹课题组博士后至今。主要研究方向为研究方向为纳米材料设计制备及能源存储与转换,已发表论文80篇,其中第一作者及共同第一作者26篇,这些工作已被引用 11400多次。其中2014年发表于Advanced Materials上的论文入选2014年中国百篇最具影响国际论文,申请9项中国专利,一个PCT专利和一个美国专利。
2.报告题目:Developing theories and methods to study the thermodynamics and kinetics of Hydrophobicity(曹思勤博士)
内容摘要:The hydrophobic interaction drives nonpolar solutes to aggregate in aqueous solution, and hence plays a critical role in many fundamental processes in nature. In order to study the nature of the hydrophobic interactions and its applications in various of biological systems, we developed microfluidics experiments to quantitatively measure the strength and cooperativity of the hydrophobic interactions, and the integration equation theory to calculate the properties of liquids around hydrophobic solutes. Our researches provide quantitative evidence for the critical role of cooperativity in hydrophobic interactions as well as efficient tools to study the structural properties of the liquids at molecular level. In the future, I plan to further develop our theories and methods for the rapid calculation of solvation free energies and the protein-ligand interactions, which can facilitate the drug design in the industry.。
个人简介:曹思勤,2013 年博士毕业于复旦大学物理系,师从韦广红教授。2013 年至今在香港科技大学化学系从事博士后研究。博后期间主要研究液体理论和疏水聚集的动力学理论。以第一作者和共同第一作者在 Nature Communications, Journal of Chemical Physics, Physical Review A, Physical Review E 和 Molecular Physics 等发表论文六篇
3.报告题目:Generation and characterization of influenza A viruses with altered mutational frequency(张柏恒博士)
内容摘要:To study the biological significance of the influenza virus mutation rate, we discovered a mutagen-resistant variant of IAV that exhibits decreased sensitivity to mutagens including ribavirin in vitro and in mouse. Using mini-genome and live virus drug-response assays, the PB1-V43I mutation was identified to confer to decreased sensitivity to ribavirin. In addition, applying plasmid-based reverse genetics, the PB1-V43I mutation in the H3N2 and H5N1 viruses was shown to decrease mutation frequency. To understand the mechanism for this decrease in mutation frequency, we demonstrate that a single PB1-V43I mutation increases selectivity to guanosine in H3N2 and H5N1 viruses. Also, results show that these mutation-defective viruses have decreased ability to generate monoclonal antibody escape mutants. We then study the role of genetic diversity in the pathogenesis of highly pathogenic viruses in mouse. The H5N1 PB1-V43I-recombinant virus replicates to comparable titres as the wild-type virus in vitro or in the mouse lungs. However, a decrease in viral population diversity at day 3 post inoculation is associated with a tenfold reduced lethality and neurotropism in mice. Applying a fidelity variant with reduced mutational frequency, we provide direct experimental evidence for the role of genetic diversity in IAV pathogenesis.
个人简介:张柏恒,2013 年博士毕业于香港大学公共卫生专业。2013 年至今在香港科技大学化学系担任助理教授。主要研究甲型流感病毒聚合酶转录过程的分子机制,并开发了新的检测方法来研究病毒聚合酶的转录以及测定新型流感病毒的突变。在 Nature Communications, Accounts of Chemical Research等发表论文多篇。
