The Research Center for Capital Markets and Corporate Finance (hereinafter referred to as “the Research Center”) was established in December 2009. The research center is positioned to serve national strategic needs and local economic construction, and promote academic innovation and discipline development. It conducts research and exploration around cutting-edge theoretical issues and major practical issues in the field of capital markets and corporate finance, and realizes scientific research, education and teaching. Organic integration of social services.
The Research Center is led by Professor LIANG Tongying, the PhD supervisor of School of Business Administration of the SCUT. The Research Center has a research team is consist of six members holding a senior professional title, four members holding a vice-senior professional title, and 15 doctoral students, and it is with well-constructed by member’s age, education background, and research discipline, thus to complement each other, which helps to improve the team's overall ability in innovation and development and scientific research level.
Since its establishment, the Research Center has completed a total of 15 scientific research projects at various levels, including five projects at the provincial and ministerial levels. At present, the Research Center is undertaking three research projects including the NSSF project titled in Research on Multi-level Innovation Policy Portfolio to Promote Chinese SMEs' R & D.
The research center mainly conducts research work in the following three directions:
The first is corporate finance and corporate governance. It is continuously tracking the frontier theories of corporate finance and corporate governance at home and abroad, based on China's national conditions, and committed to advancing the development of corporate governance systems and financial governance models in China. The Research Center has attached great importance on applying theoretical research results to practice, and providing scientific basis for relevant government departments to formulate policies and systems, in order to provide support and guidance for the company's financial and governance decisions.
The second is the investment and financing management of SMEs. Based on the analysis of the current situation of investment and financing of SMEs and the assessment of future development trends, the Research Center has developed a research report on the development of investment and financing of SMEs, thus to improve the systematic knowledge and core capabilities of capital operations for SME executives in capital operation, provide personalized in-depth consulting services to help SMEs enter the capital market, to help high-growth SMEs achieve efficient capital docking with well-known domestic investment banks and fund companies. At the same time, in the context of economic transformation, it tries to create entrepreneurial investment opportunities in more new areas.
The third is the capital market and corporate innovation. The Research Center is paying close attention to the development of various developed and emerging capital markets, tracking the institutional changes and academic theoretic frontiers of capital markets in the world to promote corporate innovation, thus to reveal the basic characteristics and objective laws of capital market incentives for corporate innovation, and scientifically evaluate the role and the overall efficiency of capital markets in promoting enterprises innovation process, and it is committed to provide theoretical support, empirical evidence and countermeasures for better improve the institutional system and operating mechanism of China's capital market.
