Internet Behavior Science Laboratory, South China University of Technology

The Internet Behavior Science Laboratory, South China University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) is the first key social science research base in South China based on big data technology to study Internet behavior. The Laboratory takes Internet behavior as the research object and focuses on the mining of talent big data social attributes. There are 19 academic members in the Laboratory, including one Distinguished Professor granted by the Changjiang Scholar Plan of the Ministry of Education, one scholar awarded the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, one talent cultivated by the “One Hundred Talents Project” of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one scholar awarded the National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars, two principle investigators of the Major Project of National Social Science Foundation,two distinguished professors of Zhujiang Scholar granted by Guangdong province,seven scholars supported by MOE Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, one scholar awarded the Guangdong Province Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 18 professors and associate professors.

Since its establishment, the Laboratory has been committed to achieving fundamental research outcomes that shall make international influence in the field of big data and talent management innovation and its application, and proposed to solve major problems in the current economic and social development of Guangdong Province. The Laboratory’s research team has close academic exchanges with renowned universities such as the National University of Singapore, the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Xiamen University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Jinan University, and South China Normal University. All of these research institutions and universities has provide us with valuable advice and support. At the same time, the Laboratory has always adhered to the principle of combining theory with practice, and kept a close cooperation with Tencent, Zhilian Zhaopin, Liepin, Guangdong Provincial Talent Development and Management Research Association, Guangdong Provincial Talent Research Association (professional and regional exchange platform for middle and senior HR managers), and accumulated a large amount of talent data. At present, the laboratory team has collected tens of millions of resumes of talents at home and abroad, and has built a large on-line database of middle and senior talents.

In terms of the publication academic papers, the laboratory team has published more than 100 academic papers in domestic and international high-level journals (EI, SCI, SSCI, CSSCI index). Among them, the laboratory team has made great progress in the field of high-tech talents mobility research by using massive resume data. Professor Ge Yanmian's research paper titled in Engineer/scientist Careers: Patents, Online Profiles, and Misclassification Bias was published in the top international academic journal of Strategic Management Journal (one of the top 24 internationally recognized management journals). The latest research outcomes of Professor Liu Shanshi and Professor Ge Yumian, Human Capital Social Network and Enterprise Innovation: An Empirical Study Based on Online Resume Data has been published in the top domestic management journal of China Management World. The latter one is also the first paper that is included in the top management journals in China, which use the large-scale online resume data of professional social networking websites to conduct research on the mobility of personnel.

In terms of scientific research projects, the laboratory team has engaged in more than 100 research projects as the principle investigator, including 16 research projects supported by NNSF which has produced great academic influence. In addition, the laboratory team is committed to applying research results to practices. It has effectively engaged in nearly 100 consulting projects related to management decision-making for more than 80 customers in the industry of power, transportation, construction, medical, real estate, i.e., Guangdong Provincial Political Research Center, Guangdong Provincial Talent Bureau, Guangdong Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau, Zhongshan Public Transport Company, Hainan Power Grid, Sanya Power Supply Bureau, etc.  It has produced excellent economic and social benefits for these institutions through various specific consultant projects, i.e., the project supported by Guangdong's Major Decision-making Consultation Program titled in Policy Research on Guangdong High-end Talent Training, Introduction and Use, Strengthening the Study of Service Management of Overseas Students in Guangdong under the New Situation, and Research on Talent Strategy of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area, etc. In general, at present, the laboratory team has a strong competitive advantage in data preparation, theoretical analysis and decision-making consultation in related fields such as talent mobility and talent management.
