South China University of Technology - University of Western Ontario Civil Engineering Research Workshop Successfully Held

From May 24 to 25, 2018, South China University of Technology - University of Western Ontario (WU) Civil Engineering Research Workshop was successfully held at school of civil and transportation, South China University of Technology. Prof. Su Cheng, assistant principal of South China University of Technology, Prof. Ji Jing, associate dean of civil and Transportation College of South China University of Technology, Ma Ning, deputy director of the Department of international exchange and cooperation, South China University of Technology, Prof. Ashraf El-Damatty, director of the Department of civil and environmental engineering of the University of Western Ontario (WU) and Associate Prof. Zhou Wenxing, deputy director of the Department of WU and so on, attended the opening ceremony of the workshop. The workshop also attracted many teachers and students from the school of civil engineering and transportation, South China University of Technology. The scene is full house.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Su Cheng, on behalf of the school, made a sincere welcome to the guests coming from the distance, and introduced the basic situation of South China University of Technology and the construction of cooperation with University of Western Ontario. Later, Prof. Ashraf El-Damatty introduced members of the team to visit SCUT and said that school of civil and transportation, South China University of Technology is an important partner for the Department of civil and environmental engineering of the WU. Prof. Ashraf El-Damatty hopes that both sides will develop further exchanges on the basis of existing cooperation to promote the development of talent cultivation and scientific research.

After welcome, vice president of Ji Jing chaired the meeting and the agenda entered the academic sharing session. Professor Ashraf El-Damatty, Professor Su Cheng, Professor Han Xiaolei, Professor Hanping Hong, Professor Yang Yi, associate Professor Mu He-Qing, Associate Professor Wenxing Zhou, Associate Professor Liu Muguang, Associate Professor Ayman El Ansary, Associate Professor Zhao Junxian, Professor Maged Ali Youssef and Associate Professor Xiong Yan brought 12 academic reports to the teachers and students, covering academic sectors such as structural wind resistance, structural fire resistance and structural seismic resistance and so on. Teachers and students conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with the reporters at the scene, fully reflecting the love and rigorous attitude of teachers and students in both schools towards scientific research.

On the morning of the 25th, the two seminars on random vibration and reliability and structural fire resistance and wind resistance were carried out at the same time in the conference room of the 2nd floor of building 7. The teachers and students of school of civil engineering and Transportation have conducted more in-depth study and discussion with WU visiting team. Subsequently, the visiting team of the structural fire and wind resistance went to the State Key Laboratory of subtropical Architecture Science for field visits.

On the afternoon of the 25th, the school of civil and Transportation and the representative of the school of civil and Environmental Engineering of WU held consultations on the double doctoral conference in the conference room of building 7. Based on the good cooperative basis of both sides, both sides have responded positively to the promotion of the cooperation plan and hope to promote the close communication between the teachers and students of the two schools with the help of the common communication platform built by both sides, and to promote both training of professional talents and scientific innovation.
