Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology approved the establishment of Guangdong Intelligent Traffic Information and Control Engineering Technology Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the center). The center was constructed by School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, South China University of Technology. The center enforces contract system and appointment system and its initial staff size includes 30 permanent staffs and 20 floating ones. The construct content of the center includes:

1) Construction of innovative research team. Build a high qualified research team that studies key technologies in frontier fields. Build a first-rate research team that studies the technology innovation and development and system integration.

2) Technology study and laboratory construction. Focus on the intelligent traffic control technology, the electronic toll collection technology of expressway, the traffic flow modeling and simulation technology, the collecting and processing technology for traffic information, the integrated traffic information platform technology and vehicular networking technology. Focus on the construction of traffic engineering laboratory, the construction of traffic planning and design laboratory, the construction of traffic monitoring laboratory, the construction of traffic simulation laboratory, the vehicular networking simulation laboratory.

3) Construction of the R&D and industrialization base. Forming the win-win cooperation of enterprises, universities and research institutes and constructing a real modern transportation science and technology innovation base to realize the construction and industrial applications of the demonstration projects and to provide engineering and technological achievements for the society persistently. Since established, the center has taken nearly 10 research projects including the National 863 Plan project, the Natural Science Foundation of China project and the provincial and ministerial level projects and obtained one second prize on science and technology progress of Guangzhou.
