报告人简介:
Dr. Shao-Yuan (Ben) Leu is an Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his BSc/MSc Degrees from the Forestry Department of the Taiwan University; and then accomplished his Ph.D. and 1-yr postdoc research in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UCLA in 2011. Between December, 2011 and June, 2013, Dr. Leu worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the USDA Forest Products Laboratory (FPL), Madison, WI. He joined Hong Kong Polytehcnic University at June 2013 and has been working on conversion of derived lignocellulosic biomass into fuels and chemicals.
Dr. Haimn Yao is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his BEng and MEng degrees in Solid Mechanics from Tsinghua University in 2000 and 2002, respectively. He subsequently went to Germany and studied in the Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research. In 2006, he obtained his Doctor degree in Chemistry from Universität Stuttgart. Then he moved to USA and worked as a postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University and subsequently at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2011, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The research interests of Dr. Yao include bio-inspired mechanics and materials, and mechanical behaviors of energy storage materials. He has published around 40 papers on the top multi-disciplinary journals such as PNAS, Scientific Reports, Journal of Royal Society Interface and the top journals in solid mechanics. So far, his works have been cited for more than 1,200 times.
