Prof. Mark Stephen Baird is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry; Member, Society of Chemical Industry; Former Member, Royal Society of Chemistry Perkin Division Council and Perkin Editorial Board; Former Chairman, North Wales Section, Royal Society of Chemistry. The group of Prof. Baird has particular expertise in the chemistry of s-mall ring-carbocycles, cyclpropanes and cyclopropenes and in natural products containing them. However, interests range over a number of areas:
1、Synthesis of mycolic acids and their importance in mycobacterial diseases such as tuberculosis and in their effects on the immune system.
2、The chemistry of cyclopropenes and cyclopropene fatty acids.
3、Bioactive materials from plants.
4、Enzymes in organic synthesis
He published more than 170 papers in his research area and 5 patents up to 2007, works as reviewer for 26 journals. He is also International Editor for Modern Problems in Organic Chemistry, Univ. of St Petersburg.
