On June 18, Mai Junhong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of South China University of Technology (SCUT), delivered an ideological and political theory course to teachers and students on the University Town Campus. Centered on the theme “Forging Ahead with Innovation, Aiming for Quality Growth—Demonstrating SCUT’s Commitment to Coordinated Urban–Rural Development,” the session was attended by more than 200 representatives from the School of Economics and Finance, the Tourism Management Department, and the E-Commerce Department.

During the lecture, Mai Junhong provided an in-depth interpretation of Guangdong Province’s “Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and Tens of Thousands of Villages” High-Quality Development Project. He outlined the pathways and directions of rural revitalization and urban–rural integration within the broader process of Chinese modernization, guiding the audience through vivid examples of SCUT’s demonstrated sense of mission and responsibility in serving major national strategic needs.

Tracing five stages—from the “Ten-Hundred-Thousand” village-based cadre initiative, to the “Double Arrival” targeted assistance, to poverty alleviation and subsequently rural revitalization—Mai Junhong presented SCUT’s long-term exploration in advancing national strategies. The university has consistently taken six key anchors—“high standards, sound quality, vibrant dynamism, steady stability, pleasing aesthetics, and superior excellence”— to build a distinctive support system, shaping the renowned SCUT Model with remarkable results.

Mai expressed high expectations for the students in attendance. He encouraged them to keep the nation's overarching priorities at heart, to strengthen the foundation for high-quality development in urban–rural integration; to carry forward SCUT's spirit of innovation and strive for breakthroughs in science and technology amid the flow of urban and rural resources; and to uphold the highest ideals of virtue and excellence, demonstrating compassion and social responsibility in coordinated urban–rural development. Through concrete actions, he urged students to contribute to achieving comprehensive rural revitalization and to continue writing new chapters for SCUT.

Relevant leaders from the Party Committee Organization Department, the United Front Work Department, the Social Sciences Office, the School of Environment and Energy, Mingcheng College, and the Architectural Design and Research Institute also attended the class.
