On Dec. 15, the12th phase of SEC Reading Salon was held in Academic lecture hall 106of Building B10. Professor SUN Longji, from department of history of National ChungCheng University, giving a lecture on “China’s Role in Modern Global Economy”. Thesalon was co-organized by The Economic Observer, SEC and The Economic Observerresearch institute. Professor WANG Renzeng, executive dean of SEC, Mr. YANGYiren, deputy party secretary of SEC, Ms. YANG Lin, senior manager of LexusChina regional PR center, Mr. ZHOU Jiping, director of Economic Observer SouthernBranch and general manager of Creativity Spread Center, and Mr. LIU Yuhai,editor of book review column of The Economic Observer attended the salon. The salonattracted more than 300 students and teachers from 10 universities and collegesin Higher Education Mega Center.

In the lecture,Professor SUN proposed that “China was the ballast instead of the leader in themodern global economy because it was not a fiscal-military state”. He analyzed abunch of typical and influential scholars’ research and idea, such as MarkElvin, McNeil, WONG Zhiying, California school, giving a clear explanation of “fiscal-militarystate” and a strong support for his academic idea.  

The Reading Salonwas SEC’s branding activity. It was held once a month, aiming to establish asound reading atmosphere and encouraged students to read widely and extensivelyin SEC. (Translated and Edited by HUANG Xiaoting)
