报告人简介:
Dr. Chu received his B.S. and PhD degrees all in Physics from Northwest University (China) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, in July 2008 and July 2012, respectively. After one year as postdoctoral fellow in the same group, He carried out his postdoctoral research (2014/04-2016/09) at The University of Stuttgart (Germany). Since November 2018, he has been an Assistant Professor in Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Joint Appointment with School of Biomedical Sciences) at The University of Hong Kong. Dr. Chu and his team have received multiple awards, including a Gold Medal at 2024 International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva; a Gold Medal at 2023 International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN); a Top 10 Best Invention Award at 2023 iCAN; a Silver Medal at 2022 Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days. He has filed three PCT, five US non-provisional, and six CN patents on diamond technologies. His current research interests include Quantum biosensing, Biophysics, Diamond, NV centers and Cell mechanobiology.
报告摘要:
The diamond has been well known as the gem stones in jewellery market, and the same material with various atomic defects, i.e., color centers in diamond lattice, shows unique quantum behaviors even at ambient conditions. Coupled with the exceptional properties of diamond as a material, these quantum defects have been harnessed to achieve nanoscale measurement of various physical quantities such as electromagnetic fields, temperature and rotation with unprecedented precision. In this talk, I am thrilled to provide a brief overview of diamond-based quantum science and technology, with a special emphasis on our most recent advancements in the field of advanced quantum sensing. This includes our work on the measurements of multidimensional cellular forces and the thermal conductivity within soft matters. Additionally, I will share insights from my journey exploring practical applications of this technology, including diamond anti-counterfeiting, diamond metasurfaces, diamond semiconductors, and beyond.
