The Research Center for Decision Sciences and Risk Management was established in November 2009 and chaired by Professor Zhang Weiguo, a professor from the Cheung Kong Scholars. The research center follows the development of scientific decision-making and risk management, strengthens exchanges and cooperation with experts home and abroad and conducts research with a world-class level. The research fields include financial engineering and risk management, theory and methods of decision making under uncertainty, online financial algorithms and applications.
The center has nurtured a wide range of scholars. Professor Zhang Weiguo was listed in the Pearl River Scholar Program, Yangtze River Scholar Program and the National Talent Pool. He was awarded the Young Expert with Significant Contributions. Xu Weijun, a researcher on the team, got the Award for Excellence issued by the Ministry of Education. One of the PhD thesis was nominated National Excellent PhD Thesis, two were entitled Provincial Excellent PhD Thesis and Excellent Thesis for Master's Degree. Two people were awarded New Talents in PhD Students. Eight PhD students won the scholarship from CSC and Guangzhou Young Talent Program and went to study in high-ranking universities abroad.
The center has been funded with one project from the National Natural Science Fund for Young Talents, one from the National Social Science Fund, four from the National Natural Science Fund, two from the Education Ministry New Talents Program. Over twenty projects are above provincial and ministerial level. The research team members published hundreds of articles on important journals, including over sixty SSCI and SCI indexed articles. We have won the National Outstanding Achievement Award in Higher Education Institutes ( Humanities and Social Sciences ) and Guangdong Outstanding Achievement Award in Humanities and Social Sciences for over ten times.
