Mansfield Park

—By Jane Austen

Mansfield Park was written by Jane Austen and published in 1814. It tells us story about a pair of lovely young girl and boy, Fanny and Edmund. Fanny was sent to her anut and uncle’s house for foster care when she was only nine. There, Mrs Norris, one of her aunts, looks down upon her, keeping remind her not to forget her status and position, and to be ignoble. Her two elder female cousins always laugh at and discriminate her, but Fanny must sit down under everything. She lives like a servant in the house. There is only her cousin Edmund, the second son of Bertrams’, treats her sincerely, teaches her and talks with her. He stands out for her when she is treat badly. Little Fanny produces good impression and find that this cousin is quite different from other people. As age growing, she fall in love with Edmund gradually. But she know who she is quite well, so she just keep her love in heart and never let him know.

The appearing of Mr Henry Crawford and Miss Mary Crawford changes life in Mansifield Park. They have wealth and influence, and good looking. But Henry is flirtatious. He hallys with the two daughters of Bertrams’. When Fanny become more beautiful and attractive, he even want to play with love with her. What he can’t forsee is that he really fall in love with Fanny. After he is rejected by Fanny again and again, he ran away with Maria, one of the two daughter who has married. Mary is a material girl. She treat Edmund’s love accouding to what he will get from his family or what he will do in the future. But Edmund truly love her. At last, he find her snobbishness and fall in love with Fanny and get marry.

In this story, I appreciate Fanny very much. She is a girl who know her own mind. She know what she can do in the family, she  know there is a big distance between her and Edmund., and she know to be silence to observe the people and the things. Unlike Mary, she isn’t long for wealth or status. She keep her love on her mind and reject any other temptation even her uncle and anut abuse her. Grow up in the same house, her two elder female cousins all run away at last, but Fanny always keep a noble spirit in her heart. At last her uncle changes his attitude toward her, and she gain her love.

From Fanny and Edmund’s marriage, I think that marriage and love can get together at last. Marriage is not a kind of trade. We can’t marry to gain a higher position or a richer life. That is not true happiness. Fanny and Mary have different pursue. Fanny marry for love, but Mary marry for wealth. In my opinion, Fanny will have a happier ending. Mary will live a much more comfortable life, but she can’t truly feel happy. For young girls, we don’t need to dream for getting married with a prince. If we find our true love, we will find true happiness.
