Appreciation for Pride and Prejudice
To be honest, I have read about Pride and Prejudice for times ,though some was in Chinese version. Pride and Prejudice is one of the favorite novels I have ever read. It is written by Jane Austen and published in 1813. Pride and Prejudice was set under the background around the early19 century. It is also a reflection of the true daily live of the middle class. Going through the whole story between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth as well as the story happened among the other characters, you won’t fail to miss the wonderful description of the conflicts and the very struggle in the minds of the characters by the author.
The style of this novel is very good, it does not contain many big words but very smoothly describe the whole story included the beginning, development, conflicts, climax and the ending in a very unadorned way. By this, we can get even closer to the characters’heart deep into the souls. And we are made more indulged in the story and the fancy literary world created by Jane Austen.
Among the whole novel, I love Chapter One a lot, because of the vivid image of Mrs. Bennett. She is an old lady who lived in the country for yeas without much education. Her only interest is to have her daughters marry to a man with a thousand ponds a year. She will spend a day gossiping about it and complain about the boring daily life to Mr. Bennett all day long. When she heard that Mr. Bingly was a young man with a thousand ponds a year, she was quite excited that she even thought she could successfully marry one of her daughters to him. Mrs. Bennett then aquired her husband ,Mr. Bennett to pay a visit to Mr. Bingly to see if Mr. Bingly has a plan to marry some one. Of course, that might be better if the “some one”is one of her daughters. This chapter is nearly composed of Mrs. Bennett’s endless talking about this matter. Well, I was quite impressed by the description of Mrs. Bennett and the response given by Mr. Bennett. After all, Pride and Prejudice is a novel to read, the very sentences will make you fall in love with the whole story and every characters in the novel.
