Steve Job, who was the co-founder and former CEO of Apple, led our world to change a lot. As people said, three Apples changed the world. The first one seduced Eve. The second one awakened Newton. The third one was in the hands of Steve Jobs.
Born in San Francisco to Joanne Simpson and a Syrian father, Steve was abandoned soon by his parents. Fortunately, Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View then adopted him and raised him up.
In 1972, Jobs graduated from Homestead High School in Cupertino, California and enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon. One semester later, he had dropped out, later taking up the study of philosophy and foreign cultures.
Steve Jobs had a deep-seated interest in technology, so he took up a job at Atari Inc, then a leading manufacturer of video games. He struck a friendship with fellow designer Steve Wozniak and attended meetings of the “Homebrew Computer Club” with him.
After saving up some money, Jobs took off for India in the search of enlightenment. Once he returned, he convinced Wozniak to quit his job at Hewlett Packard to join him in his venture that concerned personal computers. They sold items like scientific calculators to raise the seed capital.
In 1976, Jobs and Wozniak founded Apple Computer in the Jobs family garage. The first personal computer was sold for $666.66. By 1980, Apple had already released three improved versions of the personal computer. It had a wildly successful IPO, which made both founders millionaires many times over.
A tiff with the Apple’s Board of Directors and John Scully led to Jobs’ resignation. Steve Jobs decided that he wanted to change the hardware industry. The company was called NeXTStep, which produced the NeXT Computer. The machine was a commercial washout but helped with future work in object-oriented programming, PostScript, and magneto-optical devices. Jobs returned to his original company after Apple acquired NeXT in 1996.
Steve Jobs also started Pixar, which has produced multiple blockbuster films, including Toy Story (1995); A Bug’s Life (1998); Toy Story 2 (1999); Monsters, Inc. (2001); Finding Nemo (2003); and The Incredibles (2004).
In 2004, Jobs was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his pancreas, which was successfully treated. However, Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple on August 24, 2011 and subsequently assumed the role of Chairman of the Board.
On October 5, 2011, Jobs passed away, which saddened millions of people.
Steve Paul Jobs, whose name engraved on our minds, created an innovative way to our communication, entertainment even life for people all over the world. As everybody knows, iMac is the forerunner of Apple. In 1998, Jobs launched a new computer named iMac. With translucence case and shiny mouse, iMac abandoned same gray color of computers and stood for future concepts. In order to publicize iMac, Jobs adapted Descartes’ famous remark into a slogan: I think, therefore iMac, which became a successful story in advertisement.
Steve Jobs’ words had led several inspirations to people. Let’s see!
1. Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water or do you want a chance to change the world? As everyone knows, this is the line he used to lure John Sculley into becoming Apple's CEO.
2. Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Led by Jobs, Apple never attached other computer manufactures’ hips, but created new idea and produced amazing products. Therefore, the vitality of Apple, doubtlessly, is innovation.
3. If you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next. Apart from the amazing idea, Apple’s efficiency is also amazing. Since Apple produced first iPod in early 2000, the upgrading rate frightened all competitors. In 2001, Apple had beaten Sony’s Walkman and become the world’s most popular portable music player, which led the foundation for Apple’s dominating role in the commercial digital music market. Meanwhile, Mac OS X advanced iMac. In 2007, iPhone came to the world, which let Apple become the world’s third largest mobile phone manufacture. In 2010, iPad led consumers’ enthusiasm of tablet computer. Every time Apple released new products, it brought customers new feeling and changed the trendy of digital market.
4. There's a phrase in Buddhism, 'Beginner's mind.' It's wonderful to have a beginner's mind. Although Jobs achieved great success, he always kept humility, which could be showed by his casual look --- black shirt, blue jeans and new balance sneakers.
5. Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me ... Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful... that's what matters to me.
6. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
7. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.…Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice
8. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary
9. Life is brief, and then you die, you know?
10. You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.
