Sharing Experience of Exploring Interdisciplinary Talent Cultivation by "Internationalization at Home" Approach: SCUT Participates in 2024 SEP EduConnect International Symposium

On December 13th, the 2024 SEP EduConnect International Symposium hosted by the China Center for International People-to-People Exchange of Ministry of Education, took place in Sanya, Hainan Province. Vice President of South China University of Technology (SCUT) Xu Xiangmin attended the symposium and delivered a keynote speech on exploring interdisciplinary talent cultivation by "Internationalization at Home" approach.

With the theme Creating a Diverse and Integrated Collaboration on Education, the conference saw the participation of leaders from more than 10 Chinese and foreign universities, including the University of Queensland and the University of New South Wales in Australia, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in the United States, Tongji University, and SCUT. Keynote speeches were presented on topics such as The Development and Future of International Talent Joint Training between Chinese and Foreign Universities and Contemporary Global Student Mobility. Participants discussed and shared insights on topics such as international exchange and cooperation, internationalized innovative talent cultivation, and the construction of high-quality education systems.

Vice President Xu Xiangmin delivered a keynote speech titled "Exploration of Interdisciplinary Talent Cultivation: An Internationalization at Home Approach", introducing the latest developments of SCUT, particularly the "Internationalization at Home" practices at the Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC). He emphasized SCUT's commitment to cultivating excellent talents, leveraging the opportunities presented by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Xu highlighted the active exploration of the "Internationalization at Home" model at GZIC in terms of interdisciplinary construction, internationalized teaching system, academic governing system, and organizational mode. He invited participating universities to establish closer cooperation with SCUT for a shared development.
