SCUT Delivers a Keynote Speech at the 23rd China Annual Conference & Expo for International Education
From February 16th to 18th, the 23rd China Annual Conference & Expo for International Education(CACIE) hosted by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) took place in Beijing. With the theme 'Reshaping Education: Adaptation and Transformation' the conference attracted over 5200 representatives from various fields worldwide. Li Weiqing, Vice President of South China University of Technology (SCUT), was invited to attend the conference and delivered a keynote speech titled “Exploration and Practice of Internationalization at Home in the Cultivation of Emerging Engineering Talents” at the International Interdisciplinary Innovative Talent Cultivation Forum.

At the forum, Li Weiqing presented the latest developments of the University, emphasizing the schooling practice of “Internationalization at Home” at the Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC). She highlighted that the University seizes the opportunity as the pilot case of international educational reform in the Greater Bay Area to actively explore the schooling model of Internationalization at Home at GZIC, which has delivered outstanding results in areas such as the construction of interdisciplinary innovation platform, the recruitment of world-class faculty, modern college system, global openness, training of undergraduate students’ discipline competitions and innovation ability, and the construction of an international academic governance system. Li expressed the University's commitment to deeply understanding the spirit of the20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, firmly embracing the historical mission of higher education in the new era, fully implementing the Party's education policy, fostering virtue through education, and exploring new paths for higher education to participate in international competition and cooperation. The goal is to develop GZIC into a hub for gathering international high-level teams, nurturing leadingemerging engineering talents, fostering deep international cooperation, focusing on cutting-edge scientific research, advancing the transformation of high-end achievements, and promoting innovation, creation, and entrepreneurship. The University aims to provide reform and innovation initiatives that can be referenced and replicated by universities nationwide.
SCUT's exploration of “Internationalization at Home” has attracted enthusiastic attention from other attendees, who showed great interest in furthering discussion. During the conference, Li Weiqing also visited the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Ministry of Education, Chinese International Education Foundation, and Center for Language Education and Cooperation. Attendees included the Director or Dean of the Office of Global Affairs of GZIC, International Office and School of International Education.
Introduction of CACIE
CACIE, supported by the Ministry of Education and approved by the State Council, is an annual grand event in the international education field organized by CEAIE. Since the year 2000, it has been held annually and is currently China's largest comprehensive platform for education cooperation and exchange. It is also one of the most influential comprehensive international education events in the Asia-Pacific. The conference consists of five main components:CACIE plenary, CACIE forums, CACIE connect, China Education Expo, and CACIE promotion. It integrates academic discussions, policy consultations, information exchange, exhibitions, and program negotiations. The event provides an authoritative interpretation of the latest international education policies and development trends in China and around the world. It serves as a platform for global education professionals and representatives from various sectors to enlighten wisdom, share experiences, exchange cooperation, and enable alignment in resources. Moreover, it offers an opportunity for extensive dialogue on high-quality overseas education resources for students.
