University of Bradford Delegation Visits SCUT
Meeting
On October 11th, a delegation from the University of Bradford, led by Professor Vishanth Weerakkody, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor visited South China University of Technology (SCUT). Professor Zhang Liqun，President of SCUT, welcomed the guests at Shaw Humanities Building at Wushan Campus.
Address by President Zhang Liqun
President Zhang Liqun extended a warm welcome to Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Weerakkody and his delegation. Zhang provided a brief overview of SCUT's history, academic disciplines, and highlighted the development and achievements of the Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC). Emphasizing the rich international resources of the campus, President Zhang expressed a desire to enhance student collaboration through joint training programs, facilitating two-way exchanges. He also encouraged collaboration between faculty members in scientific research and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, leveraging strengths in specific disciplines to jointly address new challenges in higher education.
Speech by Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Weerakkody
Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Weerakkody expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised the rapid development of SCUT, particularly acknowledging the educational philosophy and achievements of GZIC. He expressed the hope that this visit would strengthen friendly ties between the two universities and conduct two-way exchanges between faculty members and students, and collaborations of teaching and scientific research in disciplines of mutual interest.
“Global Competence” Lecture
Following the meeting, the delegation toured GZIC. Professor Alastair Wood, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Digital Technologies at the University of Bradford, delivered an engaging lecture titled Artificial Intelligence: Friend or Foe, which was well-received by the faculty and students at the campus.
Directors and relevant representatives from the International Office, Office of Global Affairs, GZIC, School of Future Technology and Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering participated in the events.
