Promoting Youth Exchange: Russian High School Delegation Visits Guangzhou International Campus, SCUT

On November 5th, a delegation of 40 teachers and students from Russia visited the Guangzhou International Campus of SCUT to promote youth exchange and interaction. The delegation, consisting of representatives from St. Petersburg Neva District School No. 690 and Moscow 21st Century International Foreign Language School, was warmly welcomed by Directors or relevant representatives from Office of Global Affairs, GZIC, School of International Education, Office of Teaching Affairs, GZIC, and Junde College, as well as Chinese and Russian student representatives at SCUT.

Welcome ceremony

The Director of Office of Global Affairs, GZIC welcomed the Russian teachers and students who have come from afar. China and Russia, as friendly neighbors with contiguous landscapes, have always maintained close cooperation and communication. The visit of the Russian high school delegation to SCUT is conducive to further enhancing cultural exchanges between the two countries and deepening the friendship between students and teachers from both nations. 

The head of the Russian delegation and Secretary-General of the Russia-China Sister City International Cultural Education Center, Misha, expressed appreciation for the warm reception. He hoped that this visit would deepen the understanding of SCUT among Russian teachers and students, fostering greater interaction between the youth of the two countries and promoting Russian students to study at SCUT in the future.

During the welcome ceremony, Russian students performed the traditional Chinese song Jasmine and recited the poem Happy Rain on a Spring Night Their articulate pronunciation and vivid interpretation received applause from the audience. In return, a representative from School of Microelectronics engaged in a song exchange, singing the famous Russian song Katyusha.

Visiting Innovation Factory


Following the ceremony, the visiting students experienced a 3D printing course at the Innovation Factory, learning about Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) additive manufacturing technology. Under the guidance of teachers from the Public Laboratory at GZIC, they gained insights into the 3D printing process and attempted to create models such as the Great Wall, Chinese dragons, and cartoon characters.

The principals of the two visiting schools expressed that more and more Russian youth are becoming interested in Chinese language and culture. This exchange broadened their horizons and planted the seeds of friendship. They pledged to share their experiences with students and teachers in Russia, hoping for more Russian students to come to study at SCUT in China. Also, they sincerely invited the faculty and students from SCUT to visit their country and schools.

Annex

SCUT, with nearly a thousand international students from 109 countries, including 74 from Russia, maintains close exchanges and cooperation with Russian universities. SCUT is a member of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU), having served as the fourth rotational chair university of the Association.
