President Gao Song Attended the Launching Ceremony of the Construction of Guangzhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Pilot Zone
On March 31st, Guangzhou held a launching ceremony for the construction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital economy pilot zone. Zhang Shuofu, Secretary of CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, announced the start of the key projects. Qin Weizhong, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, unveiled the nameplate for the National New-type Industrialization Demonstration Base (Big Data) and the Guangdong Laboratory of AI and Digital Economy (GZ). Wen Guohui, Deputy Secretary of CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, Mayor of Guangzhou City, started the centralized operation. Gao Song, President of SCUT, Cao Dahua, Executive Deputy Director-general of the Office of the Leading Group on the Construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and Chen Zhiying, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou City delivered keynote speeches.

The construction of the pilot zone is inseparable from the participation and support of all sectors of industry, universities and research units. Gao Song said that the construction of the Guangzhou AI and Digital Economy Pilot Zone is of great significance, and it will open a new chapter for the development of Guangzhou AI and digital economy. SCUT is taking the lead in the construction of the Guangdong Laboratory of AI and Digital Economy (GZ), and works harder to achieve breakthroughs in the cutting-edge basic researches of AI as well as other core technologies in key fields, so as to speed up the construction of a series of subject groups in the field of artificial intelligence and digital economy . Next, the university will further gather the global innovation resources and act as an active participant and important contributor for the pilot zone.
Chen Zhiying observed that Guangzhou will take the construction of the pilot zone as a traction to accelerate the construction of new-type infrastructure such as 5G network, to develop new forms and models of artificial intelligence and digital economy, and to promote the in-depth integration of the digital economy and the real economy, and continue to improve the demand for industry digitalization and intelligence so as to create a new growth points for high-quality economic development.

Cao Dahua said that the Office of the Leading Group on the Construction of the GBA will continue to support the construction and development of the Guangzhou pilot zone, and he believes that with the joint efforts of all people and the active participation of all sectors of the society, the Guangzhou AI and Digital Economy Pilot Zone will surely develop at a fast pace and play a more important role in promoting the high-quality economic development of the whole province and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

It is known that the total area of Guangzhou AI and Digital Economy Pilot Zone is about 81 square kilometers. Within the pilot zone, the innovation cluster zone in the south bank of Pearl River, namely the Pazhou core area (including Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center) takes up about 48 square kilometers; the integration development zone in the north bank of Pearl River consists of the Guangzhou International Finance Center (about 8 square kilometers) and the Yu Zhu Area (about 25 square kilometers). The mobilization activity includes the online unveiling ceremony of the National New-type Industrialization Demonstration Base (Big Data) and the Guangdong Laboratory of AI and Digital Economy (GZ), and the live broadcasting of the signing of 98 projects, the opening of 44 projects and the start-up of 99 projects. The total investment in the projects has exceeded 580 billion yuan.
