Delegation from The University of Edinburgh visited SCUT for further discussion on cooperation projects

On the morning of November 28th, the delegation from the University of Edinburgh led by Ms.Christine Sinclair, the Manager of Recruitment and International Partnerships in the School of Engineering, paid a visit to South China University of Technology. Representatives from Office of Teaching and Global Affairs, School of Micro-electronics, School of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering, School of Molecular Science and Engineering and International Office met the delegation at the International Meeting Room in Shaw Building of Humanities.

It was reported that Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, led a delegation to visit the University of Edinburgh on July 5th and conducted a thorough discussion with Professor James Smith, Vice President of the University of Edinburgh. At the meeting, two universities signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) concerning university-level academic cooperation for short-term exchanges. Besides, both sides reached a consensus on expanding the scope of cooperation of the “2+2” Dual-Degree Graduate Program and the “4+1” Bachelor-Master Degree Program to Guangzhou International Campus. The visit of the delegation led by Ms. Christine Sinclair aimed to hold further talks on implementing these cooperation projects.

The Deans or representatives from School of Micro-electronics, School of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering, School of Molecular Science and Engineering introduced the general information of schools respectively, hoping to enhance pragmatic collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, including Dual-Degree Graduate Program, student exchanges and summer camp programs. Besides organizing the student exchanges, it’s also hoped to facilitate teacher short-term exchanges in line with the student exchanges program each time so as to promote the teachers interactions between the two universities and eventually accelerate the related projects into real implementation. The delegation approved of these proposals. In the next phase, both sides would have a comprehensive negotiation on cooperation professions, particularly in course credits.

In addition, both sides exchanged opinions on jointly organizing scholar seminars, promoting research collaboration and receiving the short-term student exchanges from the University of Edinburgh.
