Top of the list! SCUT ranks first in the Overall Support Index of Universities in Guangzhou
On December 27th, the Guangzhou Daily Data and Digital Institute (GDI Think Tank) released the “Evaluation Reports of Economic and Social Development Served by the Major Universities and Research Institutes in Guangzhou (2019)” (hereinafter referred to as the “Report”). This report, based on the third-party angle, evaluated the support of the major universities and research institutes in Guangzhou for local economic and social development in four dimensions, including the commercialization of scientific research achievements, the integration of production, education and research, the industry platform support, and the talent support.
The report shows that SCUT not only wins the first place in the overall support index of major universities in Guangzhou with an outstanding score of 100 points, but also ranks first in the indexes of the “commercialization of scientific research achievements”, the “integration of production, education & research”, and the “talent support”.
SCUT ranks first in the overall support index
The report evaluates both the universities and the research institutes, of which 16 are universities. In accordance with the scientific principle, the comprehensive principle, the principle of comparative independence and the principle of data accessibility, the report sets four first-level evaluation indicators, like the commercialization of scientific research achievements, the integration of production, education and research, the industry platform support and the talent support, and ten second-level indexes, including technology transaction, patent transformation, incubated-enterprise transformation, production, education & research cooperation, joint-establishment of new R & D institutions, joint-construction of united laboratories (R & D platforms).
The report generates the “1+4” index list of major universities in Guangzhou through the above evaluation indicators, where “1” refers to the “Overall Support Index Rankings”, and “4” refers to the “Achievement Transformation Index Rankings”, the “Production, Education & Research Integration Index Rankings”, the “Industry Platform Support Index Rankings” and the “Talent Support Index Rankings”.
In general, according to the various evaluation indexes, the report points out that the major universities and research institutes in Guangzhou perform quite well and provide strong supports for local economic development. For the universities, SCUT is the strongest support for local economic and social development; for the institutes, Guangdong Academy of Sciences has the biggest boost to the economic and social development of Guangzhou.
