Alumnus Liu Shilun donates 30 million to SCUT
The Donation Ceremony & the Unveiling Ceremony of “Shilun Building”
On the morning of December 5th, a donation ceremony & unveiling ceremony of the “Shilun Building” was held in the Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC). Liu Shilun, the 1977 Alumnus of Automobile Engineering of SCUT, Chairman of Holdfound Group, Honorary President of Holdfound Group Philanthropic Foundation, Yang Jiali, Director of Holdfound Group, Chairman of Holdfound Group Philanthropic Foundation, Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee attended the event.

On behalf of SCUT, Zhang Xichun extended his graduate to alumnus Liu Shilun for his generous support for the development of the university. He pointed out that with the establishment of the GZIC, SCUT has formed a running pattern of “One University with Three Campuses”, and its dream of constructing a world-class university is gradually becoming a vivid reality. It is no doubt that the current development achievements of SCUT would have been impossible without the continuous support by the alumni who love SCUT and have great concern about the development of the university, like those of Liu Shilun. In respond to the supports by all the alumni, Zhang Xichun made a suggestion to the staff and students that everyone shall strive to produce a stronger “Voice of SCUT” and work harder to make “Contributions of SCUT” for the cultivation of innovative talents and economic and social development.

Liu Shilun recalled the scene of his college entrance exam and the excitement when he got to know that he had been admitted by SCUT, and then vividly told his profound connection with SCUT for over 40 years. He said that the donation of RMB 30 million will be used to support the university to conduct fundamental researches of relevant disciplines that are forward-looking and have significant impacts on the future of humanity, to promote the construction of high-level teaching faculties, to reward students participating in different scientific innovation competitions, and to fund students of GZIC for overseas exchanges.
At the ceremony, Zhang Xichun accepted the donation cheque of RMB 30 million from Liu Shilun on behalf of SCUT, and granted him a donation certificate and a memorial plaque. Tao Shaojing signed a donation agreement with Holdfound Group Philanthropic Foundation on behalf of SCUT Foundation. In order to thank Liu Shilun for his generous donation to support SCUT to construct a world-class university, SCUT named the D3-b Public Laboratory Building at GZIC as the “Shilun Building”. The unveiling of the “Shilun Building” was witnessed by the teachers, students and other alumni who presented.
