Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of MOE visited Guangzhou International Campus of SCUT

On September 26th, a delegation led by Fang Jun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Ministry of Education paid a visit to South China University of Technology (SCUT), with a special investigation on the opening-up education of SCUT. Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Qiu Xueqing, Deputy President of SCUT met the delegation accordingly, Li Jinjun, Director of the Office of Exchange and Cooperation, Department of Education of Guangdong Province joined the meeting.

Deputy Secretary Tao Shaojing introduced the construction of GZIC

The delegation firstly conducted an on-site investigation in Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC). Tao Shaojing introduced the innovation concepts of GZIC, including management system, discipline layout, talents cultivation pattern and running mode of the university. She particularly introduced the international faculty construction, and the practical exploration on international homogeneous-equivalent education mode and research collaboration. She said GZIC has currently set up relationships with the University of Michigan, the University of Western Australia and other world-known universities as well. She emphasized that this Campus was going to enrich the connotation of Chinese-foreign co-running school by featuring mutual learning, equality and cooperation, and to establish a new mode of internationalization with local orientation of higher education.

Then, the delegation went to visit the Wushan Campus of SCUT. Qiu Xueqing met with them and expressed his sincere thanks on behalf of SCUT to the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges for the strong support on the development of SCUT, especially on the international exchanges. Qiu Xueqing introduced the development of international talents cultivation, exchanges and cooperation within Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and international students’ affairs. He said that SCUT would further combine the historical opportunity of the “Double First-class” construction and the construction of Guangzhou International Campus, and seize the strategic opportunity of the national construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to deepen the opening up of education, and speed up the construction of a world-class university.

Fang Jun spoke highly of the internationalization achievements of SCUT and the innovative approaches launched for GZIC. He encouraged the university to grasp all sorts of opportunities, set up a scheme of internationalization from the perspective of national and regional innovation-driven development strategies, introduce international high-quality resources, promote the Chinese-foreign joint-running schools, maintain the sustainable development of the university, improve the quality of talents cultivation and enhance the level of university management. Meanwhile, he also gave some invaluable instructions and advice on strengthening and promoting opening-up education.
