Guangzhou International Campus welcomes the 2019 undergraduate freshmen

Students and Teachers extended their sincere wishes to the motherland

On September 20th, South China University of Technology held welcome ceremonies to the newly enrolled 6,484 undergraduate freshmen and 6,494 graduate freshmen at three campuses. Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Gao Song, President of SCUT, Liu Qijin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee, Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Qiu Xueqing, Li Zheng, Vice President of SCUT specially came to the Guangzhou International Campus to attend the welcome ceremony and meet with the first cohort of freshmen and their parents face to face.

University leaders chatted with the freshmen

Zhang Xichun visited the freshmen registered booths and had close exchanges with the staff, the volunteers and the freshmen. He highly appreciated the Head Teachers’ enthusiasm devoted to the cultivation of students as he saw that many of them had already arrived at the register booths before the scheduled time and communicated closely with the freshmen. Zhang Xichun said that all Head Teachers should attach great importance to the students’ moral education, helping them to fasten the “first button” in their university life. Meanwhile, the Head Teachers should continuously accumulate their experience in student administration so as to help the students to lay a solid foundation for their long-term career.

Zhang Xichun also made a special visit to the graduate freshmen’s dormitories to know about their accommodation facilities.

University leaders talked with the students’ parents

“After returning to the university, I feel strongly that time is precious and I must take time to study hard.” A freshman named Zhang Daolu, who have just finished his one-year “Western Volunteer Initiative” in Longsheng, Guangxi Province and returned to study for his master’s degree, said to President Gao Song at one of the registered booths. Gao Song showed great interest in his experience in Guangxi and encouraged him to strive for greater achievements in his studies.


In the undergraduates’ dormitory, President Gao Song talked with the students and their parents, enquiring about the freshmen’s majors, nationality and their high school experience. And then he introduced the faculty team and the training models to the parents, and specially reminded the freshmen to be united, cooperative and adapted to their dormitory life as soon as possible, and to develop good habits in their college life as well. He encouraged them to make full use of the superior conditions provided by the university to jointly achieve academic progress, to improve their comprehensive quality, and to inspire their devotion to family and country.

GZIC welcomed the first enrollment of undergraduate students

Today, the Guangzhou International Campus ushered in a historical moment. A total of 2,333 freshmen from 9 schools enrolled in the Campus. There are some welcoming activities organized by the schools. For instance, a flash mob activity co-hosted by the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation and the School of Arts pumped up the audience. Students and teachers sang songs together to express the best wishes to the students for their upcoming birthdays, and to express their youthful love to the country as the 70th National Day was coming.

“As parents, we also want to do something for the campus”, “The international concept of the campus is wonderful”, “We applaud for your work”, these are all the sincere praises and encouragement uttered by the parents. They were completely touched and inspired by such a modern and international campus.


The registration of freshmen was successful

Following the registration, the campus will continue to hold such activities as orientation lectures, college meetings, academic planning, safety education, opening ceremonies, and the first lesson given by school leaders, so as to lay a solid foundation for the growth of the freshmen.
