The First Group of Buildings of Guangzhou International Campus Got roof-topping Successfully
As the Spring Festival approaching, the construction site of the Guangzhou International Campus of SCUT delivered another good news: the public laboratory building in area T and the A1 Building in Area A were completed in structure and got roof-topping on the morning of February 1st,2019. This is another significant advance in the construction of the Guangzhou International Campus, marking that the campus construction project has entered into a new stage.
At the observation meeting, Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Gao Song, President of SCUT, He Jingtang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Deng Hongyong, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Zhu Ruiwu, Deputy Head of Panyu District, Su Yan, Chief Engineer of Guangzhou Construction Engineering Project Agency, Ma Yijun, General Manager of China Construction Fourth Engineering Division, Xian Congying, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Construction Co., Ltd., Xu Zhu, Chairman of Guangzhou Pearl River Engineering Construction Supervision Co., Ltd, and other VIPs shoveled the concrete into the foundation pit to finish the roof-topping work of the first buildings of the first construction phase. Liu Qijin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Zhu Min, Dang Zhi, Li Zheng, Wu Yechun, Vice President of SCUT witnessed this exciting moment.

At the meeting, Zhang Xichun first expressed gratitude to the relative departments at all levels, all sectors of society and the staff who participated in the construction of the campus, for their attention and support in the construction of the Guangzhou International Campus on behalf of the University. He said that in the past year, South China University of Technology has delivered impressive achievements in personnel training, discipline construction, faculty development and scientific research innovation. With the strong support of all parties, the construction project of Guangzhou International Campus was rapidly advanced with high standards and at high levels, which demonstrated the 'Guangzhou Speed' in the new era.
Zhang Xichun emphasized that the Guangzhou International Campus is the first step for the University to carry out the 'New Three-step Strategy' of Chinese education, and the important breakthrough for the University to boost the implementation of the 'Belt and Road Initiative' and the construction plan for 'Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area' and to serve for the local industrial transformation and upgrading. It is also a pivotal move for the University to start an enterprising chapter in the new era. In the new construction stage, Zhang Xichun hoped that all units could continue to concentrate their energy and enthusiasm on the construction tasks and work together to draw a magnificent picture of the Guangzhou International Campus, so as to make new contributions to the development of China's higher education and the Education Innovation Cluster of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to serve as two important windows - a window to showcase China's achievements in its reform and opening-up to the world and a window for the international community to observe China’s reform and opening-up.
The exciting moment
Those persons in charge of the construction units stated that they would continue to strictly manage and precisely promote the progress of construction and ensure that the first phase of the project is fulfilled for using on schedule with high level quality while ensuring safety of construction.
It is known that the newly capped buildings of area T are located near the central axis of the campus, with 5 floors above ground and 1 basement. The building is 23.84 meters high and covers 55,000 square meters, including a laboratory building, a lecture theatre, an engineering training center and a calculation center, etc. With the joint efforts of all the participants, the work objective was completed in advance after 161 days of intensive construction. The next step will be the construction of mechanical and electrical installation and interior decoration.
