On November 11, 2016, Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission forwarded the reply letter of General Office of National Development and Reform Commission on the construction of National Engineering Laboratory for Technology and Equipment of VOCs Pollution Control (High Technology Industry Division of the Development and Reform Commission  No. 2218) and officially approved the construction of National Engineering Laboratory for Technology and Equipment of VOCs Pollution Control.
Given that our country's current capacity of independent innovation in VOCs control is weak, foundation supporting capacity is insufficient, equipment running is unreliable and the current situation of industrial structure is unreasonable, in order to meet the needs of complex air pollution control and the development and upgrade of environmental protection industry , South China University of Technology, as the leading unit, has jointly established the National Engineering Laboratory for Technology and Equipment of VOCs Pollution Control with a number of industry-university-researching-use units.
The director of the laboratory is Professor Daiqi, Ye, President of the School of Environment and Energy, South China University of Technology. This National Engineering Laboratory is the first National Engineering Laboratory led by South China University of Technology and is the only National Engineering Laboratory led by a university in Guangdong Province.
The National Engineering Laboratory aims at improving the industry's capacity for independent innovation and core competence. Aiming at solving the problems of weak technology of VOCs treatment and low operational reliability of key materials and equipment running in China, the laboratory has carried out strategic and forward-looking joint researches. Relying on the advantages and foundation formed by the development of VOCs pollution control technologies in typical scale enterprises, industrial parks’ VOCs pollution control technology and the overall solution research, engineering and industrialization, the Laboratory improves the overall technology and equipment level of VOCs pollution control in our country, promotes the innovation and development of relevant industries and develops sophisticated products, technologies and equipment that reflect the overall national strength and international competitiveness to meet the needs of national economic development.
