International Symposium on the Microbial Chemistry and Biology 2017, hosted by the School of Biology and Biological Engineering of South China University of Technology, was successfully held in the University City Campus from October 25 to 27, 2017. Professor Deng Hai as chair of the conference, and more than 50 scientists and researchers from Europe, America and Asia attended the conference.

The meeting invited nine domestic and foreign experts to make the conference report, including Deng Zixin from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tom Simpson from Fellow of the Royal Academy of Sciences, James Naismith from University of Oxford, Greg Challis from University of Warwick and others. The report conducted an in-depth discussion on the current research progress and hot topics of chemical and biological research on natural products of microorganisms. Meanwhile, it provided opportunities and platforms for the participants to discuss.

In the process of intense and orderly meeting, experts and representatives participating in the conference conducted in-depth academic discussions on the structural analysis of natural products such as bacteria, actinomycetes and marine fungi, the excavation and regulation of synthetic gene clusters, and drug development.

Experts said that this meeting has a positive impetus for strengthening international cooperation in the field of microbial natural products research. They hope the conference can be held continuously to provide a substantive platform for it.
