25 years ago, Professor WANG Xiaoning ever found that NK cells could "drill into" the tumor cells not only to kill them inside, but also to be killed by the tumor cells, when he studied the interaction between NK cells and tumor cells. In 2007, U.S. scientists published papers in the Cell and also confirmed that a number of tumor cells could "drill into" homogeneous tumor cells each other and died intracellular which is a new mode of cell death called Entosis. Then Entosis author read the research paper that Professor WANG Xiaoning studied in 25 years ago and found it very similar. Combining academic resources between Wenzhou Medical College and Southern Medical University, the team has overcome the numerous experimental difficulties and co-operated with Professor YAO Xuebiao from China University of Technology for two years to confirm the discovery is correct, which is through modern cell and molecular biology techniques. The intracellular death is a new mode of cell death and different from entosis, which provides a new perspective for further exploring the interaction and the new biological significance between immune cells and tumor mechanism. The research results published firstly the online edition of Cell Research in the September 29.
WANG Shan, first author of the paper, is currently a first year doctoral student in our college, which again achieved a new breakthrough on a high level of Master's papers in our School (IE: 4.535).
