Nov. 14th, 2014, South China University of Technology South Campus undergraduate education decennial symposium on “transboundary education and inter-disciplinary talent cultivation” was held in B6-207 South China University of Technology South Campus.
There’re two centre topic of this symposium: “the demand of transboundary education” and “the cultivation of inter-disciplinary talent”. The symposium was co-hosted by Prof. Lin Ying, vice-dean of School of Bioscience and Bioengineering, and Prof. Liang Jieming, vice dean of School of Design. Prof. Wei Kun, vice-director of teaching office, Ms Zeng Xueli and teachers and student representatives from School of Bioscience and Bioengineering attended this symposium.
Prof. Wang Fenghong, director of department of information and interactive design of School of Design introduced the definition of the inter-disciplinary cultivating innovated design talents, leading to the participants being acknowledge about transboundary education in-depth. Associate Professor from School of Bioscience and Bioengineering compared the difference between China and foreign countries on inter-disciplinary talents cultivation around the topic of “inter-disciplinary talents cultivation”, and proposed some suggestions on inter-disciplinary talents cultivation in our countries and our universities. Afterwards, Mr. Ouyang Bo, director of teaching research office of School of Design discussed something about the combination of industry and education and cultivating innovation talents by practicing. At last, Liao Xihao and Zhang Junjie, who had finished their competition in iGEM International Game, introduced their experience and the demand of the international talent, especially the demand of the iGEM International Game, suggesting the effective study and practice method. Everyone who had given speech in this symposium attracted the participants to propose their opinions. Participants, hosts, and speakers discuss around the topic actively and this symposium won the praise from Director Wei Kun.
This symposium recommended us the demand and significance of transboundary education and inter-disciplinary talents cultivation, highly educating the students and teachers attended to the symposium. It strengthen the communication of School of Bioscience and Bioengineering and School of Design, attracting two students from School of Design to participate in 2015 iGEM International Game.
