In direction that “there’s no start point of academic” and “demand is the direction”, South China University of Technology cooperating with Shenzhen BGI Tech have achieved great success in cultivation of undergraduate students and postgraduate students, successfully creating a talent cultivating mechanism named “SCUT Mode”. In order to strengthen the cooperation on talent cultivation, teaching staff, science research and platform building, SCUT and Shenzhen BGI tech plan to co-build the“Proteomics and Translational Medicine Application Laboratory” based on twice feasibility study symposium (held on Sep.13thand Oct. 28th, respectively), which make significant sense to improve both of SCUT and Shenzhen BGI tech the level and competitiveness in the field of proteomics and translation medicine application.
Nov. 20th, Prof. Liu Siqi, one of the founder of BGI, came to SCUT all the way with their proteomic and microbial proteomics team in order to attend the symposium about co-building the laboratory. Prof. Tan Wen, Dean of School of Bioscience and Bioengineering, Director of Guangdong Province key laboratoryofEnzyme engineering and fermentation, other 5 professors and 10 post-graduate students attended this symposium. Both SCUT and BGI analyzed their advantages and disadvantages in science researching through discussing and arguing. The symposium made us realize the importance and urgency of cooperation. BGI occupy the advanced level in genomics and proteomics, while Innovative medical center of Schdool of Bioscience and Bioengineering, SCUT have profound experience in establishing animal model and translation medicine researching. Both of collaboration members agree to cooperate in nano-antibody, ischemic stroke in heart and brain, and myocardial hypertrophy. Both of us will put into initial funding and co-build the “Proteomics and Translational Medicine Application Laboratory” to carry out the related science research.
The “Proteomics and Translational Medicine Application Laboratory”will carry out their work depending on the Guangdong Province key laboratoryofEnzyme engineering and fermentation andInnovative medical center. Prof. Liu Siqi who were hired as the adjunctive professor of SCUT expected that the SCUT and BGI would make successful cooperation and achieve great performance in future. He will actively lead his team to promote the depth cooperation and communication between SCUT and BGI.
