1st Nanomedicine and Biopharmaceutical R&D symposium
time: 2015-03-12

The first Nanomedicine and Biopharmaceutical RD symposium, which was co-sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the South China University of Technology (SCUT), was hold in School of Bioscience and Bioengineering at 9th-10th March, 2015.

Prof. Gert Storm giving a lecture

The chair of the symposium is Prof. Ram I. Mahato who is also the chair of University of Nebraska Medical Centre, USA. Prof. Wen Tan, the Dean of School of Bioscience and Bioengineering, SCUT, took the role of co-chair and hosted the symposium. Scientists from USA, The Netherlands and Singapore, including Prof. Horward E. Gendelman from University of Nebraska Medical Centre and Prof. Gert Storm from Utrecht University, gave a lecture in the symposium. All members from Innovative Medical and Drug Centre of SCUT and researchers from Sun Yat-sen University attended the meeting.

The experts themed on building a novel nano-biopharmacy drug delivery system, elaborating that one of the challenge in the field of siRNA and miRNA clinical application is to build up an efficient and safe drug delivery system to avoid the natural biological barrier and cytotoxicity. They also introduced the nano-medicine delivery system and its important role to the clinical application.

In the round-table discussion, experts talked about the current nano-medicine and pharmaceutical research and development prospect. Meanwhile, the experts affirmed the scientific research efforts and the platform construction and teacher's strength of School of Biological Science and Engineering. They also expressed their cooperation intention with South China University of Technology in the field of nano drug research.

This symposium was co-sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the South China University of Technology (SCUT), which seemed to be an important connection between SCUT and international research institute, enhancing the international reputation of SCUT in the field of nanomedicine RD.
