报告摘要:

The adsorption of colloidal particles at fluid interfaces to stabilize emulsions or foams has been known for over a century. Today, particle-stabilized emulsions, often referred to as Pickering emulsions, are receiving growing attention as they have been widely used in personal care products and food industry. To design and engineer the structure and properties of materials based on these colloidal systems for applications, it is important to understand the behaviour of particles at fluid interfaces at the single-particle level and to establish the relationship between the microscopic behaviour of interfacial particles and the bulk properties of particle-adsorbed interfaces. In this talk, I will present background information on the behaviour of particles at fluid-fluid interfaces and highlight the development of various particles for Pickering emulsion stabilization. Additionally, I will introduce and discuss the functional materials that can be prepared by using Pickering emulsion as templates.

报告人简介:

To NGAI now is Professor in the Department of chemistry, Assistant Dean (Research) of the Faculty at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). He received his B.Sc. in chemistry at CUHK in 1999. In 2003, he obtained the Ph.D at the same university, where he worked on light scattering and polymer interaction in solution. He moved to BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany) in 2003 as the postdoctoral fellow for two years, working on colloids and surface chemistry. After a short postdoctoral training in the Chemistry Department at the University of Minnesota in 2005, he joined the Chemistry Department at CUHK in 2006 as a research assistant professor. He has been appointed as an assistant professor in 2008, and promoted to associate professor in 2012. In 2017, he was promoted to Professor. His current research interests center around the colloids, surface chemistry, polymers and soft matter. Prof. Ngai have published over 200 papers with total citations of 8600 and an h-index of 52 (Google Scholar). He received the Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ) Lectureship Award 2020, and the Paul J. Flory Research Prize 2023 at the 29th Polychar World Forum on Advanced Materials in Nice, France.
