On September 5 and 6, South China University of Technology carriedout orientation for its 2026 intake simultaneously across its three campuses.This year, the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering welcomed 192 newstudents, including 102 postgraduate students and 90 undergraduates. At theSchool’s orientation station, new students from all over the country have beenarriving one after another to complete their registration procedures,officially beginning their academic life at Huayuan.

Academician Zhongmin Yang, the university president; Weiqing Li,deputy party secretary and vice president; and Gang Jin, vice president,visited the college’s orientation site to greet the new students who wereregistering and to learn about the college’s orientation activities. Theuniversity leaders engaged in warm conversations with the new students andtook group photos with them, extending their care, best wishes, andexpectations.

The pressence of College Party Secretary Zheng Zhang and SchoolDean Academician Xiaoqi Chen, talked with students checking in at theorientation station to learn about their living arrangements after arriving oncampus, and together they visited some of the graduate and undergraduatedormitories. Party Secretary Zhang stated that the college providescomprehensive support for students in all aspects of their studies and dailylives, serving as their most reliable foundation during their time at Huayuan.



At the orientation station
To ensure a smoother orientation process and help new students feelmore at home, the college’s orientation station made meticulous preparations.The station was stocked with custom-designed merchandise—such as notepads,phone stands, document folders, and card holders—practical items to support newstudents’ academic and daily lives. The college also organized astamp-collecting activity. By collecting all five stamps in order, studentscould complete the “ Cyber Zoo”—is fully revealed, allowing everyone to gain avivid understanding of the college’s research specialties through interactiveengagement. Student volunteers were on hand throughout the event, patientlyanswering registration questions and using their own experiences at Huayuan tohelp new students adapt quickly. During Orientation Week, AcademicianChen will also serve as the lead runner, guiding new students on the“First Run for Freshmen” to kick off their first meaningful university lessonthrough running.
The two-day orientation went smoothly and orderly. From the careandgreetings of university leaders to the meticulous arrangements of theSchool,and from the patient guidance of volunteers to the thoughtful design ofthecustomized merchandise check-in activity, all were intended to help everynewstudent feel the warmth of Huayuan and the care of the school. At thisnew stage of life, we hope students will set out with this warmth, adapt to thenew environment as soon as possible, take the initiative to learn, be brave inexploration, find their own direction at the school, and achieve solid growth.
