Recently, the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering stepped up its undergraduate recruitment efforts as planned. Led by its leadership and key faculty, the school sent teams to key high schools across several provinces and cities. Through lectures, discussions, and science talks, they showcased the school’s academic strengths and talent development achievements.

Tang Hongwu and Delegation Hold Talks with Key Hefei High Schools

In April, university Party Secretary Tang Hongwu led a delegation for a group discussion with principals from several major high schools in Hefei. Academician Chen Xiaoqi, Dean of the school, also took part. The two sides exchanged views on bridging high school and university education, fostering top-tier innovators, and guiding students in career planning. Tang emphasized that the university prioritizes high-quality student recruitment, with integrated efforts from admission to graduation. He expressed hope for deeper collaboration with Anhui’s high schools to jointly nurture future talent. At Jiangsu Xin Hai Senior High, Chen Xiaoqi and his team visited the AI innovation lab and the optics experience center, and held talks with school leaders on talent development and curriculum alignment.

Academician Chen Xiaoqi Delivers Science Talks at Hefei No. 6 High School

Chen Xiaoqi gave five science lectures at Xin Hai Senior High, Yangzhou University Affiliated High School, Hefei No. 6, Hefei No. 1, and Hefei 168 High School. The theme was “Embodied Intelligent Robots and Manufacturing.” He explained how robots combine physical bodies with intelligence, discussed the impact of large language models and computing power, outlined ten frontier technologies in robotics, and shared research outcomes like industrial embodied intelligent robots and aero-engine blade repair equipment. The talks sparked students’ interest in cutting-edge tech and innovation.

Yu Zhuliang Gives Lecture at Changxing High School in Zhejiang

Executive Dean Yu Zhuliang and Vice Dean Chen Baiji also traveled to promote recruitment. On April 11, Yu spoke at Changxing High School in Zhejiang on “Listening to the Voice of Intelligent Technology, Seizing the Pulse of the Innovation Era.” He used the Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to AI scientists as a starting point to explain the essence of AI and its technological leaps, encouraging students to embrace opportunities in innovation. He also held in-depth talks with school leaders on connecting high school and university education. Chen Baiji traveled twice to Shanghai for recruitment sessions, introducing the school’s educational philosophy and achievements, and patiently answering questions from students and parents about majors, career paths, and prospects, effectively communicating the school’s strengths.

Faculty Members Actively Join Recruitment Efforts

Several other faculty members also took part. Lu Shaofeng visited Xiamen No. 1 High School, Yangjiang Senior High, and Yangjiang No. 1 High School, and joined an online recruitment event for Shanghai. He also returned to his alma mater, Yongding No. 1 High School, giving talks for both senior and junior students, blending alumni spirit with cutting-edge tech to guide students toward innovation in the digital-physical era. Li Yunquan and Chen Gang met face-to-face with students and parents at Guangzhou No. 7 High School and the High School Affiliated to South China Normal University. Chen Ye went to Shanghai for recruitment consultations, patiently answering parents’ questions. Zhou Yitong took part in an online Shanghai session, explaining the school’s programs and features. Huang Zhicong, Zhuang Huiping, and Wen Zhenfu conducted recruitment activities in Foshan, Shenzhen, and Dongguan. Drawing on their own research and teaching experience, they vividly demonstrated the school’s strengths in robotics and intelligent manufacturing, significantly boosting its reputation among top-tier students both inside and outside the province.

Looking ahead, the school will continue to implement the university’s recruitment strategy, mobilize diverse resources, innovate presentation formats, and build lasting ties with key high schools. It aims to identify and nurture exceptional talent, laying a solid foundation of high-quality applicants for the university’s high-quality development. (Text/Photos: Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering)
