As summer warmth lingered, the new semester began, with students and the university embracing each other in the early days of autumn. On September 6–7, South China University of Technology (SCUT) welcomed its Class of 2025 across its three campuses. Among them, 200 freshmen from the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering arrived with dreams and determination, ready to open a new chapter in their lives.

On the morning of September 6, Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the SCUT Party Committee, visited the school’s welcome station to learn more about this year’s orientation arrangements. School leaders provided an overview of the incoming class and highlighted a series of orientation week activities specially designed for the new students.

School leaders warmly chatted with freshmen and their parents, asking about their first impressions and academic interests. They also presented customized gifts to the newcomers. Academician Chen Xiaoqi, Dean of the school, encouraged students to aim high, build a solid academic foundation, and dare to innovate. He urged them to make full use of the school’s advanced research facilities and expert faculty to become outstanding innovators in the field of intelligent manufacturing.

In line with the university’s digital registration process, the school set up on-site consultation desks, organized campus tours, and planned engaging activities for the newcomers. A special highlight was the Cybernetic Zoo—a creative cultural stamp designed by the school’s office team. This unique stamp not only showcased the school’s innovative spirit but also reflected its vibrant research environment.

At the welcome station in Building E5, groups of young faces gathered—students from different places, all excited to begin their journey at SCUT. Senior students and staff were on hand to offer guidance, answer questions, and help with registration, ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition for everyone.

The lively orientation atmosphere caught the attention of local media. Hong Xin, a graduate instructor, and Xu Anguo, a new student majoring in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, were interviewed by Guangzhou TV. Hong Xin introduced the school’s one-stop support system and student-centered services, emphasizing all-round assistance for academic and personal growth. Xu Anguo shared his excitement about starting university and his eagerness to learn, conduct research, and lay a solid foundation for his future.

A new starting point, a new journey—may the Class of 2025 courageously write their own remarkable stories at SCUT and the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering.
