I. Introduction of the School
The School of Light Industry Science and Engineering at SCUT is located in the lush Wushan campus. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in China's light industry sector, with leading strengths in both research and talent development. The school’s discipline in Light Industry Technology and Engineering was among the first to be included in the national 211 Project and 985 Project for key development. It has consistently ranked the first in the national assessments of the first three rounds, and received an A+ rating in the fourth and fifth rounds. In 2017 and 2022, it was continuously selected as a discipline under the national Double First-Class initiative, maintaining a leading position and vivid growth in the country. With more than 70 years of development, the school has established a national academic hub for light industry, integrating high-level talent training, original innovation, engineering application, and social service. It has become one of the core forces leading the development of China’s pulp and paper industry.
The school is home to a Postdoctoral Research Station in Light Industry Technology and Engineering, which has been honored as a National Excellent Postdoctoral Research Station three times. III. International Research Platforms and Interdisciplinary Innovation
The school is equipped with 4 national-level scientific research and teaching platforms (State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, National Engineering Research Center of Pulp and Paper Technology and Pollution Control, National Technology Innovation Center for Advanced Paper-based Materials, National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Light Industry and Food) and 9 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research and teaching platforms (such as the Key Laboratory of Wet Nonwovens and Membrane Functional Materials of the Ministry of Education). It has formed a complete industrial chain of scientific and technological innovation integrating basic research, technological development, pilot-scale incubation and industrial transformation, and owns the most comprehensive pulp and paper experiment and testing platform in China. The instruments cover the entire preparation process of micro-nano materials, bio-based polymer functional materials, biomass catalytic conversion, new energy battery materials and flexible electronic devices. The school is also equipped with internationally advanced full-process pulp and paper production and pilot-scale systems, various electron microscopes, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, desktop synchrotron radiation devices, 3D CT systems, as well as in-situ characterization and product quality performance testing and analysis instruments.
We attach great importance to interdisciplinary integration, and warmly welcome outstanding PhD graduates with multidisciplinary backgrounds in materials, energy, biology, chemistry, environment, polymer science, medicine, artificial intelligence, automation, computer science and other fields to join us, and jointly explore cutting-edge scientific issues and key bottleneck technologies.
We actively promote international exchanges and cooperation, support postdoctoral researchers to participate in international academic conferences and carry out international cooperation projects, and provide valuable opportunities for joint research with top universities and research institutions worldwide.
IV. Research Directions for Recruitment (Addressing Global Challenges)
Centering on the national Dual Carbon goals, the strategy of manufacturing a powerful country, the new materials strategy and the layout of future industries, we are focusing on recruiting talents in the following research directions (including but not limited to):
·Lignocellulosic chemistry and materials (cellulose chemistry, lignin chemistry, fiber materials, etc.)
·Green pulp and paper making and intelligent manufacturing (pulping chemistry, green low-carbon biomass refining based on pulp and paper making platforms, carbon emission reduction, etc.)
·Bio-based new materials (e.g., biodegradable plastic alternatives, biomass composite materials, etc.)
·Advanced paper-based materials and anti-counterfeiting substrates (micro-nano fiber structure regulation, optoelectromagnetic paper-based materials, paper-based microfluidic chips, special pulp preparation and application, etc.)
·Key materials for new energy batteries and electronic devices
·Biomass chemical engineering and environmental systems engineering
·AI process simulation and computation
V. Career Development Path: Clear Promotion Channels
We have designed a career development support system for postdoctoral researchers:
·Job title promotion: After completing 18 months of postdoctoral work or within one year of leaving the postdoctoral station, one can apply for the title of associate postdoctoral researcher.
·Opportunity to stay at the university: After completing the postdoctoral program, you can apply for a series of positions such as tenure-track, teaching, or research-focused series to stay at the university.
·Full support for funding application: We encourage and guide postdoctoral researchers to lead applications for various research grants or awards, such as the National Science Foundation of China and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
·Post-training development: Those who stay in Guangdong for work after leaving the postdoctoral program and meet the requirements will receive a housing subsidy of 400,000 RMB from the Guangdong Provincial Finance Department (for 3 years).

·Other benefits: Social insurance and housing provident fund will be paid in accordance with regulations, and relevant welfare benefits will be provided; postdoctoral fellows recruited through the Guangzhou International Campus can receive an additional 200,000 RMB in research funding.
VII. Job Application Requirements
(1) Applicants should have obtained a doctoral degree from well-known universities or research institutions in China and abroad, and the doctoral degree was obtained within the past 3 years;
(2) Professional background includes, but is not limited to: pulp and paper engineering, chemical engineering and technology, materials science and engineering, physics, chemistry, biology and other related disciplines;
(3) Possess strong research skills and the ability to conduct independent research, and has achieved numerous research outcomes in related fields;
(4) Possess strong English reading and writing skills, a strong team spirit, and good physical and mental health, committing to engage in postdoctoral research full-time.
