Prof. Xiao-Yun Yan received his B.S. degree from Xiamen University (2014) and Ph.D. degree from the University of Akron (2020). He served as a research assistant in School of Emergent Soft Matter, SCUT (2020–2022) under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Cheng. After that, he started his postdoctoral training at Department of Mechanical Engineering, MIT (2022–2025) working with Prof. Xuanhe Zhao. In 2025, Dr. Yan took his professorship at School of Emergent Soft Matter, SCUT. During recent years, Dr. Zhang published more than 40 papers in high-level journals, such as Nat. Mater., Nat. Water, JACS, Angew. Chem., and so on. Dr. Yan’s group focuses on phase structure regulation and advanced applications of polymer materials. Starting from polymer design, we combine phase behavior control with diverse processing techniques to create polymer materials with unique multiscale structures, aiming for applications in environmental, biomedical, and advanced manufacturing fields.
Prof. Xiao-Yun Yan’s research is mainly focused on 1) Develop soft materials with 10 nm lattice periodicity for unique optical and thermal properties; 2) Create hydrogels/elastomers with tailored phase structures for enhanced mass and heat transfer.
