Personal Profile

Dr. Patrick Chan obtained his Ph.D. from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2009. He joined the School of Computer Science and Engineering of South China University of Technology in the same year. Currently, he is an associate professor of the school and one of the main responsible persons of the laboratory of the Machine Learning and Control Team. The current main research fields include deep learning, image recognition, adversarial learning, and secure machine learning, etc. Many international journal and conference articles have been published, with an H-index of 23. Multiple projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, and the Research Fund of Central Universities have been undertaken and participated in, and the research results have been implemented. Different enterprises' academic research projects have also been undertaken.  

Dr. Chen serves as the assistant editor and associate editor of Int'l Journal of Machine Learning and Cybernetics, a well-known academic journal in the field of international machine learning. Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. on Cybernetics and Information Sciences. And actively participated in international expert activities. Served as a director of the international organization IEEE SMCS (2014-2016) and the chairperson of the IEEE SMCS Hong Kong Chapter (2014-2015). Also co-organized many international conferences and served as the chairperson of the organizing committee of several international conferences.

In terms of guiding students, Dr. Chen has repeatedly guided students to participate in the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program Fund, the Challenge Cup competition, the SRP 100-Step Ladder Climbing Program, etc., and achieved outstanding results. He has also guided students to publish articles in international journals and conferences on multiple occasions. For many consecutive years, I have ranked first in the college in the school's teaching evaluation activities and have been awarded the title of ""Outstanding Teaching Award"" and ""Outstanding Head Teacher"" on multiple occasions."
