Dr. Shen Xiangyang is the Founder and Chairman of the Institute for Digital Economy (IDEA) in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. He is a Foreign Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a Foreign Fellow of the U.K. Royal Academy of Engineering. Dr. Shen is a world-renowned expert in computer science and artificial intelligence, a global leader in the technology industry, and a strategic scientist with significant influence across academia, industry, and investment communities. From 2013 to 2019, Dr. Shen served as Executive Vice President of Microsoft Corporation, overseeing Microsoft Research and the Artificial Intelligence product division, and was responsible for shaping the company’s long-term technical strategy and driving forward-looking research and development initiatives. In late 1998, he returned to Beijing to co-found Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), and from 2004 to 2007, he served as its Managing Director and Chief Scientist, nurturing a generation of world-class Chinese computer scientists, technical experts, and entrepreneurs.
