Personal Profile
Liang Lingyu is an Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor at South China University of Technology. His current main research directions are computer vision and machine learning. In 2016, he visited the laboratory of Professor Jiaya Jia (IEEE Fellow, former Distinguished Scientist at Tencent) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong as an Honorary Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a one-year academic exchange. He has published nearly 30 SCI/EI-indexed papers, including first-author or corresponding-author publications in top-tier international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics (TCYB), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (TMM), IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing (TAFFC), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), Pattern Recognition (PR), and premier international conferences such as NeurIPS. He holds multiple granted and published patents.
He has successively served as principal investigator on more than ten projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, CAAI-Huawei MindSpore Academic Incentive Fund, and SenseTime Young Researcher Fund. He has also participated in multiple national and provincial-level projects, including General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Technology R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has been invited to deliver academic presentations at multiple international conferences, including NeurIPS, CVPR, Pacific Graphics, ICASSP, and ICIP. He serves as a reviewer for numerous international and domestic journals and conferences, including IEEE TMM, IEEE TAFFC, IEEE TSMC-Systems, IEEE CGA, Computer Graphics Forum (CGF), and Neurocomputing. As a domain expert, he has been selected into the Guangdong Provincial High-Level Talent Evaluation Expert Database.
In teaching, he is the primary instructor for the graduate courses “Deep Learning” and “Machine Learning,” and contributes to the interdisciplinary graduate course “Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Design.” He teaches the undergraduate course “Data Structures” and the AI micro-specialization course “Deep Learning.” He was awarded the Second Prize of Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award and the University-Level Special Prize for Teaching Achievement. He has guided students to win multiple competition awards, such as the Gold Award in the Industry Track of the National Finals of the China International “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Special Prize in the Guangdong Provincial “Challenge Cup” Competition. He received the Nomination Award for the “Moral Education and Talent Cultivation Award” from the School of Electronic and Information Engineering in 2018, the Outstanding Advisor Award at the 18th Asian Design Academic Year Awards in 2020, and the “Intelligent Base” Huawei Cloud & Computing Pioneer Educator Award in 2021. He actively supports undergraduate and graduate students in securing internships at well-known enterprises such as Huawei, Alibaba, iFlytek, SenseTime, Tencent, and Hikvision.
