On the morning of September 10, 2025, the opening ceremony for the 2025 freshmen of the Future Technology College was grandly held in the auditorium of the E3 Library on the international campus. The ceremony was attended by He Jianhua, Party Secretary of the college, Cai Hongmin, Vice President of the college, Jin Zhanpeng, Shu Lin, and other vice presidents, class advisors for all the freshmen, representatives of the faculty, and all 145 undergraduate and 131 graduate students of the 2025 class, marking the beginning of a new journey. The opening ceremony was presided over by Party Secretary He Jianhua and was officially opened with the solemn playing of the national anthem.
Vice President Cai Hongmin delivered a speech on behalf of the college, extending a warm welcome to all the new students. He systematically introduced the college's development history, disciplinary construction, research platforms, and talent cultivation efforts, emphasizing that the college has always been oriented toward national major strategic needs, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and big data, and is committed to cultivating high-quality AI+ engineering leaders who possess future key technologies, innovative spirit, practical abilities, a sense of patriotism, and a global vision.
He pointed out that artificial intelligence is reshaping the world, data is driving change, and technological advancements have transformed educational models, work models, and social organization. Facing the opportunities and challenges of the new era, he put forward four expectations for the new students: First, to have a vision for their country and integrate personal ideals into national development, bravely embracing the mission of leading the future; Second, to boldly break through disciplinary boundaries, exploring uncharted territory in the AI+ interdisciplinary fields to seek new breakthroughs; Third, to enter laboratories and research teams early, honing practical skills through practice, with the college's research facilities and practical platforms fully providing support; Fourth, to pursue lifelong learning, always maintaining curiosity, and adhering to the principle of making technology serve for good and letting innovation go the distance.
Freshman Huang Lancheng, a undergraduate student majoring in Data Science and Big Data Technology from the Class of 2025, spoke on behalf of the undergraduate freshmen. She shared her journey from the initial excitement of joining Huayuan to gradually establishing her goals and firming her beliefs. Through the warm welcome from her teachers and the inclusive atmosphere of the campus, she experienced the warmth of Huayuan. Moreover, from Zhang Secretary's message at the university's opening ceremony—to have great aspirations, pursue profound knowledge, and cultivate outstanding talents—she gained a profound understanding of the university's mission. She aspires to uphold the university's motto of learn extensively, reflect deeply, discern clearly, and act firmly, taking the red-gowned predecessors and outstanding alumni as role models. She aims to hone her professional skills, bravely shoulder the responsibilities of the era, and strive to grow into a three-creation engineering talent with a sense of national mission and global vision, contributing her youth to the wave of technological revitalization of the nation.
Jiang Yupeng, a master's student in 2025 and a recent undergraduate graduate from the college's artificial intelligence program, spoke on behalf of the new graduate students. He reviewed his undergraduate journey over four years: participating in academic competitions, helping establish the artificial intelligence association, joining the lab through the SRP program, utilizing the university's international platform to attend classes at the University of Cambridge in the UK, and exchanging with world-class scholars face-to-face. Additionally, he participated in Baidu's AI talent training program and a HSBC Technology internship through the college's industry-academia collaboration platform... “The college has provided us with a broad platform and abundant resources, enabling us to grow academically and practically.” Standing at this new starting point, he will carry forward the spirit of the college, continue to delve into innovation, and strive for greater heights.
Professor Lin Zhenhong, the teacher representative, began with his personal experiences, welcoming the new students and expressing his passion for teaching and nurturing students. During his speech, Professor Lin skillfully incorporated questions and interactive segments, asking the freshmen, Was the college entrance exam and postgraduate entrance exam tiring? and How did you feel after taking the exams? These questions resonated with the students. He then introduced the concept of the dopamine trap, reminding the classmates that the fleeting pleasure from fragmented entertainment is easily addictive, while the lasting joy from hard work is more meaningful, encouraging the freshmen to pursue the sustained happiness brought by learning new skills and creatively completing tasks. He stated, All teachers in the college will always be your strongest support. We sincerely hope that all students will stay safe and healthy during their university years, achieve academic success, gain knowledge, and live happily, always experiencing the sustained joy from hard work. His speech was filled with wisdom and enthusiasm, giving the freshmen a deeper understanding and anticipation of university life.
The opening ceremony coincided with the 41st Teacher's Day, and the student representatives presented flowers to all the teachers on-site, expressing their deepest respect. After everyone stood up to sing the school anthem, the opening ceremony concluded successfully.
To help the new students adapt to campus life more quickly and embrace a positive mindset, the college arranged a series of activities after the opening ceremony, including the first ideological and political class, new student safety education, and an interpretation of the student management regulations, which were hosted by Vice President Shu Lin.
Party Secretary He Jianhua of the School delivered a First Ideological and Political Class themed Youth in Sync with National Strength. Starting from the awe-inspiring scenes of the September 3rd military parade, Secretary He pointed out that the foundation of advanced weaponry lies in industrial manufacturing strength, and behind trade wars are battles over education and technology. He systematically explained the national development logic linking science and technology-education-talent. He interpreted the State Council's Opinions on Deepening the Implementation of the 'AI+' Initiative, which proposes to achieve extensive and deep integration between artificial intelligence and six key sectors by 2027, and to fully enter a new era of intelligent economy and intelligent society by 2035. He emphasized that AI is evolving from a technical tool into a general-purpose productive force, and encouraged freshmen to strengthen their ideals and convictions, bravely shoulder the mission of the times, and inscribe their personal endeavors into the great cycle of national rejuvenation.
Secretary He also shared his personal experience with running for fitness, revealing that since December 2023, he has accumulated over 4,000 kilometers in total running distance, and that completing a 10-kilometer run has become a daily habit. He called on students to develop healthy exercise routines, building strong bodies to support scientific research and innovation. After the class watched inspiring videos about the moving stories of Liu Xiuxiang and Pang Zhongwang, Secretary He delivered an emotional message: Your golden period of growth closely aligns with the implementation cycle of national strategies. You should set lofty ideals, courageously forge ahead in the vast ocean of artificial intelligence, and write a brilliant chapter of youth at the historic convergence of the 'Two Centenary Goals'.
To fully support the campus life of the new students, Graduate Counselor Wang Haoyuan then gave a specialized interpretation on campus safety, student management regulations, and academic norms. He elaborated on aspects such as network security and dormitory management in a detailed and thoughtful manner, using typical cases for in-depth explanations, reminding the students to always maintain a sense of security, providing clear guidance for the new students to quickly adapt to the campus environment and regulate their behavior.
