On January 10, 2025, the 4th Future Technology - Baidu Brain Cup Student Science and Technology Works Competition of the School of Future Technologies was successfully held in the D1-b110 lecture hall. During this exhibition, the design outcomes from the Introduction to Engineering course, completed by 2024-level students, were displayed and competed against each other. The event successfully demonstrated the students' learning achievements over the semester. The featured course projects were diverse and full of novel ideas, fully showcasing the students' innovative thinking and practical capabilities.
A total of 33 student projects were completed by the 2024-level students majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data for their Introduction to Engineering course. The supervising instructors included Shu Lin, Jin Zhanpeng, Zhang Xin, Qing Chunmei, Liu Ye, and Deng Jiali.
The competition was hosted by Associate Dean Shu Lin of the School of Future Technologies and featured an expert judging panel for critique, including: Yu Han (Associate Dean of the School of Future Air and Space Technology, Beihang University), Haibin Lin (Technical Director of Baidu Ecosystem Partner), Bin Hu (Professor, School of Future Technologies), Qi Liu (Professor, School of Future Technologies), Huaidong Zhang (Associate Professor, School of Future Technologies), and Junhui Ou (Associate Professor, School of Future Technologies). They highly praised the entries and offered valuable comments and suggestions.

First Prize

Project: Metaverse for the School of Future Technologies

Description: This project utilizes frontier technologies such as Digital Cousin to explore and develop metaverse applications for administrators, business users, and school visitors. Functionalities developed for different groups include smart water/electricity management, intelligent monitoring, advertising location recommendations, metaverse guided tours, and virtual classrooms.
Project: AuraSense Controller: Metaverse Tactile and Somatosensory Interaction Handle

Description: This is a low-cost, general-purpose metaverse interaction controller based on ESP32, integrating force feedback from electromagnets with electrostimulation tactile feedback technology. It aims to enable general devices like PCs and mobile phones to achieve immersive metaverse interaction. Features include automatic recognition and assignment of master/slave devices, and user-defined interaction logic and parameters.
Project: Smart Voice-Enabled Modern Vehicle Design

Project: Cinewaves: Music Large Model Empowering Film and Television Creation

Description: Cinewaves is an AI large-model-based auxiliary composition platform for film and television scoring. It attempts to change traditional scoring methods through new technologies like large music models, empowering the development of the film and television cultural industry.

For the five of us, as freshmen, this project was undoubtedly a huge challenge and adventure. We completed the entire project flow in an extremely short time, without any outsourcing. None of the five of us could have been left out; each person had their shining moments and astonished the others in their area of responsibility. When one party encountered a problem, the five of us worked together to solve it—unity became our secret weapon for success. We poured our absolute maximum effort into this project. In our view, the First Prize wasn't luck; it was inevitable! Of course, we must also thank the mentors, teaching assistants, and friends who provided us with invaluable advice and assistance!

Thanks to the Introduction to Engineering course, I have gained a completely new perspective on the engineering discipline. By participating in this course, I deeply realized that engineering is not just the application of technology, but an innovative process for solving real-world problems. The importance of teamwork was fully demonstrated in our group discussions; only through close collaboration could we find the optimal solution. It also made me recognize the critical role of innovative thinking in engineering. In the future, I hope to cultivate both innovation awareness and critical thinking while mastering solid theoretical knowledge, thereby contributing to social development. This event has made me look forward to the engineering discipline and further solidified my academic direction.

After participating in the Introduction to Engineering project defense, I felt a slight sense of regret, but more importantly, I genuinely felt the enhancement the project brought us. It not only built a practical innovation platform for us to turn knowledge into results but also greatly trained our teamwork and adaptability skills. From the initial project conception to the final defense presentation, we went through challenges and gained a lot. This was not just a test of our professional skills, but a honing of our innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities, laying a solid foundation for the future research path of us freshmen. I am grateful to the school for this valuable opportunity!

Our team worked together to complete the construction of the AI Multi-Agent Novel Creation System. This was a journey full of challenges and rewards. Through the implementation of the project, we not only deepened our understanding of AI technology but also profoundly experienced the importance of teamwork. Throughout the process, everyone played to their strengths and collectively solved technical difficulties one after another. Ultimately, the successful operation of the system made us incredibly proud. This experience not only enhanced our technical capabilities but also made us cherish the power of collaboration even more.
