Biography

Professor Yanwu Xu is a dual-appointed Research Fellow at Pazhou LAB. He is the former Chief Scientist of Baidu Intelligent Healthcare. He also serves as an Expert Member of the WHO Digital Health Technical Advisory Group, and Adjunct Professor at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Member of the IEEE Biomedical Signal Processing (BISP) Technical Committee, Vice Chair of the Ophthalmology Subcommittee of the International Association of Translational Medicine (IATM), Vice Chair of the Digital Imaging and Intelligent Medicine Subcommittee of the Chinese Association of Medical Education, Standing Committee Member of the CCF Digital Medicine Technical Committee, Standing Committee Member of the Intelligent Ophthalmology Subcommittee of the Chinese Association of Medical Education, and Committee Member of the Science, Technology and Industrial Promotion Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering as well as the Big Data and AI Medicine Subcommittee of the Beijing Society of Health Law.

Professor Xu has led over RMB 45 million in national-level research projects (excluding matching funds) and over RMB 48 million in industry-sponsored projects. He has published more than 160 papers in international journals and conferences, including over 30 papers in top-tier journals (impact factor >10) and 4 highly cited papers, with over 12,500 Google Scholar citations and an H-index of 50. He holds over 10 international patents and more than 40 Chinese patents.

He currently serves on the organizing committees of top-tier medical imaging conferences MICCAI and IPMI, and as an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Data, Medical Imaging, and BioMedical Engineering Online, all under Springer Nature. He is also a Founding Editorial Board Member of Intelligent Medicine (an English journal under the China Science and Technology Journals Excellence Action Plan sponsored by the Chinese Medical Association) and the Chinese journal Digital Medicine and Health. Professor Xu has served as an Area Chair or Program Committee Member for major AI conferences including AAAI, ICCV, and ICML. He is the Founding Chair of the International Ophthalmic Medical Image Analysis Workshop (OMIA) and the iChallenge competition platform.

Professor Xu has been appointed as a Distinguished Expert of the Ministry of Public Security’s Talent Introduction Program, a Distinguished Expert of Zhejiang Province, and a Distinguished Expert of Beijing. He has been recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer for MICCAI, an Excellent Reviewer by the China Association for Science and Technology, and an Outstanding Area Chair for MICCAI. He has also been listed for four consecutive years in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list published by Stanford University.
