To broaden the international perspective of students in the Future Technology Institute and enhance their global competence, the National Future Technology Institute Shared Curriculum 2025 Winter Short-Term Program | Overseas Expert Lectures X Global Competence Course, hosted by the South China University of Technology Future Technology Institute, was successfully held in mid-to-late January 2025. The program invited professors from overseas universities such as Imperial College London, University of Oxford, and New York University, as well as former Chinese ambassadors and counselors abroad to jointly deliver lectures.
The two-week program, totaling 32 class hours, consisted of two parts: Overseas Expert Lectures and Global Competence Course. After the course registration opened, 136 students from 11 universities nationwide applied. Based on their academic performance and English proficiency, 48 students from various Future Technology Institutes were selected to complete the program.
The Overseas Expert Lectures provided students with the most contemporary and forward-looking AI courses based on the breakthroughs in AI technology in recent years, to better connect with subsequent coursework and practical applications.
The course theme was Generative AI Technology Reshaping the Future, aiming to demystify generative AI. Students mastered the basics of generative AI, understood different generative models and their underlying technologies, and became familiar with the applications and future prospects of generative AI in various fields (such as text, images, music, games, etc.). The course was taught by Dr. Panos Parpas, Associate Professor in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London and Director of the Undergraduate and Master's Program in Mathematics and Computer Science.
The Global Competence Course totaled 10 class hours, with lectures by former ambassadors, counselors, and overseas professors on topics such as The Needs and Cultivation of International Competence in the New Era, Global Governance and the Cultivation of Youth Leadership Competence, and Progress and Frontiers in Global Climate Change Research, helping students develop global competence and prepare for future studies.
