Recently, South China University ofTechnology (SCUT) and China Southern Power Grid (CSG) have renewed theircooperation to launch the freshmen seminar The Production and Utilization ofElectrical Energy for 451 first-year students.

The first session of the course, titledAcademician Academic Lecture, kicked off on the morning of October19 at the University Town Campus. Academician Li Lichao, Honorary Director ofthe Expert Committee of China Southern Power Grid, delivered a lecture themed Energyand Power Technology Revolution and New-Type Power System. Focusing onsix core areas—China’s powerand power grid development status, the impact of the energy revolution on powerand power grids, power grid technological advancement (including UHV DC transmissionand flexible DC transmission), new-type power grids, the core essence ofnew-type power systems, and the future energy and power technology revolution—Academician Li provided professional enlightenment and ideologicaland political education to all freshmen. The lecture hall was fully occupied,and during the interactive session, students actively spoke up and engaged inin-depth discussions with the academician, fostering a vibrant academicatmosphere. After the lecture, the students further studied the video ofAcademician Li Lichao’s appearance on CCTV-1’s Talks at the Crest through the SPOC (Small Private Online Course)format.

In addition, another AcademicianAcademic Lecture organized by the School of Electric Power Engineeringwas held at the University Town Campus on November 6. Academician Rao Hong,Chief Scientist of China Southern Power Grid, gave a presentation titledStepping into the New-Type Power System: The Era’sPositioning for Young Electrical Engineers to students of the Elite TalentClass at Baibuti Innovation Institute. The presentation covered six keyaspects: an introduction to the electrical engineering discipline, an overviewof the new-type power system, the latest progress in power technology, thecountry’s demand for power talents, an introduction tothe national science and technology program system, and CSG’s scientific and technological resource platform. As a key componentof the newly launched course Freshmen Training Camp for the 2025 cohort of theElite Talent Class at Baibuti Innovation Institute, the lecture addressedtopics such as the cutting-edge of disciplinary development and disciplinarycharacteristics, offering guidance to freshmen in choosing their professionaldirections.
