Good News! Professor Pan Yongmei Has Been Elected as an IEEE Fellow for the Year 2026

On November 27, 2025, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) announced the list of new Fellows for 2026. Professor Pan Yongmei from the School of Electronic and Information Engineering was elected as a Fellow, in recognition of her academic achievements in the fields of dielectric resonator antennas and filter antennas.

IEEE is the most renowned and largest non-profit international academic organization in the fields of electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, communication, and automation technology. It has approximately 480,000 members from over 190 countries and regions and 39 technical associations (along with 8 technical committees). It is one of the most important innovation-driven sources in the field of information technology. IEEE Fellow is the highest honor awarded to members by IEEE. The candidate must have made significant contributions to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology and brought significant value to society. The number of those elected does not exceed 0.1% of the total number of IEEE members in a given year, and the competition in the global academic and engineering communities is extremely fierce.

As of now, the School of Electronic and Information Technology has a total of five professors who have been elected as IEEE Fellows (the other four are Professor Xue Quan who was elected in 2011, Professor Chu Qingxin who was elected in 2019, Professor Che Wenquan who was elected in 2022, and Professor Zhang Xiuying).

Professor Pan Yongmei Profile:

Pan Yongmei is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Electronics and Information Engineering of South China University of Technology. She obtained her bachelor's and doctoral degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2004 and 2009 respectively. From 2009 to 2012, she served as a researcher at the National Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves in City University of Hong Kong. In 2013, she was recruited as an associate professor at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of South China University of Technology as an introduced talent. In 2014, she was promoted to full professor through an exceptional promotion.

Professor Pan Yongmei mainly conducts research in antenna theory and technology. She has published over 140 SCI papers, including over 90 papers in IEEE Trans journals; she has applied for more than 10 US patents; she has won one first prize in the National Excellent Scientific Research Award of the Ministry of Education for Natural Sciences, one first prize in the Guangdong Science and Technology Award for Technological Invention, and the Lot Shafai Professional Mid-Career Outstanding Achievement Award of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society; she has successively been granted the National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Fund B Project (2019), the Guangdong Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Young Fund Project (2016), and the Guangdong Special Plan for Talents Innovation and Youth Outstanding Talent Project (2015).

Currently, Professor Pan Yongmei serves as the editor-in-chief of the international authoritative journal IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation in the field of antennas, the first chairperson of the Array Technology Committee of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society, a member of the Awards Committee, and the deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Short-Range Wireless Detection and Communication.
